borderlands 1: charm and vibes. its genuinely quite endearing and odd in places
borderlands 2: beginning of cringe but overall a pretty fun time
borderlands 3: unbelievable cringe, best played muted BUT actually has the most fun and polished gameplay loop of all of the games

3 has the best gameplay but overall 2 is the best out of the series. This is because the writing and humour is so unbelievably bad in 3. I'd recommend 2

1 is not fun solo at all. 2 is okay solo, but near endgame it's horrifically balanced and becomes a slog. So 3, I guess, but Presequel or Wonderlands are better solo games because the skill trees or skill tree equivalents are way more impactful.

2 is the worst in the series but if you're autistic you might like it due to the endgame of killing the same boss 200 times in a row to get a 0.05% droprate item that's 1% better than the previous one which the other games lack
TPS and Wonderlands are shit with no redeeming qualities

Borderlands 1 is the only good one, and I'd say that's mostly an accident.

2's story is absolutely atrocious, but unlike 3 where its primary problem is that it endlessly assaults you with terrible dialog, it's more about what it represents (unrepentantly shitting on everyone and buck-breaking them until they're nothing more than catchphrase dispensers) making 2's entire base campaign a humiliation ritual to both play and experience especially more than once. Worst endgame meta (if you even bother to get that far) because 4/6 of the playable characters become completely useless around OP4. Enjoy having to slag literally every enemy if you hope to do damage, asshole.

2 is the best in the series and has the most content, so play that. NEVER play the standalone wonderlands game it is laughably bad. If you enjoyed 2 but want a slower paced game with more gritty feel then play bl1. If you enjoyed 2 and dont hate australian accents then the presquel is decent. If you enjoyed 2 and want even faster smoother gameplay and are okay with an even worse story and dialogue than 2, then you should play bl3.
