how challenging are the Ys games?

most of them are just shit, but the two or three that came out in the PS2 era are all pretty challenging and a good time

the boss fights are the real challenges. they have patterns but they're borderline variable so its hard to predict how to move around them and strike them. play oath in felghana.

ALL are super easy on the intended difficulties, and they are only challenging if you pick the harder difficulties.

Beat most of the games on nightmare. Earlier games are especially tough, later games are more forgiving. (7 onwards) Ys 1 has the gayest, most aids inducing final boss in vidya history.

I've only played the first 6.
The main problem is mandatory grinding. It's so obnoxiously implemented - you can spend an hour getting through a dungeon, only to get to the boss and not be able to do any damage because you don't meet the mandatory invisible level requirement.
