I emulated a lot of PS2 & Dreamcast on my LCD deck, but haven't bothered since I got my OLED.
What I want now more than anything is to play some Bushido Blade on that thing. I should stop being lazy and throw 1 & 2 on there.
Emulating anything before Dreamcast seems like overkill, but I guess there's a handful of N64 games I wouldn't mind revisiting.

Light PS3 and light Switch are your stopping points with PS2 occasionally having some issues. Some games can be played but most will be miserable experiences for PS3 and Switch while on PS2 most games are okay but the ones that are bad are pretty bad. It's better to wait for the SD2 since there's no way that's not out in the next two years and that will likely smooth at least PS3 out some.

Is it a resource issue with the deck, or is emulation for PS3/Switch and those specific games in general difficult? Genuinely asking as someone who hasn't emulated past PS2 on a desktop

Probably the same as the SD1 was at launch. I wouldn't expect that much of a price increase.

Probably not, 16GB could be a bottleneck but I'll ask /v/ this question because they're probably know more than me when it comes to this technical stuff. To get the generational leap in performance and efficiency balance that Valve wants in a Steam Deck 2, would Valve stick with 16GB of RAM or upgrade to 24GB of RAM?

They would upgrade. A homebrew ram upgrade alone is already netting good performance gains on the deck. There's no point in throwing in powerful hardware if it's just bottlenecked by cheaping out on one component.
