Ive been playing THUG2 for the first time on emulation and its very fun. Is American Wasteland worth visiting or should I play THUG 1 again after like 20 years

Thug 1 and 2 were the end for the series. The crack already showed with 4 being a sandbox style.

I regrettably bought the 1+2 remake on Epic full price, beat it in a day and a half, never picked it up again. Not repeating that mistake.

good times. No black or brown people in games existed at the time. Just 1 woman character no one played.

That one snow level was really funny. My brother and I laugh our asses off when he misreads "bury that bully" as "Burn that bully." Was funny as hell thinking we had to set him on fire. Jumping the magic hobo was also hilarious on first playthrough. that was Tony Hawk 2 I bvelevie

I loved 1, 2, 3, skipped 4, wore out my CD playing THUG, and stopped after that.

Lot's of good memories making my own parks, lot's of great songs I discovered, and loved playing SKATE with friends.
Think I had the most fun playing THUG, I loved the RPG element and the insane amount of tricks you could perform, especially the eccentric Rodney Mullen level tricks like the dark slide.

The games also got me and my friends at the time into skateboarding. I got pretty decent doing ollies over 3 boards, learned the kickflip, heelflip, and various shove-its.

everything except the games in “the rest” I would consider at least a 8/10
revert was the last necessary piece of the puzzle, sticker slap/wallplants were a nice addition
story driven and goal oriented gameplay both have their positives but in general the story driven games were more interesting
3 just has the best levels, best soundtrack, tightest controls

I've been playing the fuck out of the Skate alpha after squeezing as much from 3+4 as I could and it's really apparent that THUG/THUG2 need full remakes with more fleshed out engines.

The THPS34 soundtrack is honestly such dogshit that I immediately started enjoying the game 10x more with my own music, and I NEVER do that with games.

I know Tony was involved in picking the soundtrack. Nothing against him but maybe he's a better skateboarder than playlist maker.

Tony Hawk Downhill Jam on PS2 is a fun game. Anons should play it if you haven't.

I don't get why some feel the sandbox style is some great betrayal in the series. The timer never really meant anything before since the games never ask you to do more than one goal at the time. You could push yourself to doing that but with the sandbox style you can also just skate for its own enjoyment as well.

And that's what the Pro Goals/challenges were for in THPS. I think the Hard modes in THUG2 and THP8 in general were the only Tony Hawk games that actually catered to those of us who got retard good

People like 4, it's just that nobody really talks about it because THUG1 overshadows it. THUG1 took all the ideas 4 had, expanded on them, and made them better. THPS4 ends up feeling like a weird stepping stone between the best timer-based TH game and the best mission-based TH game.

Basically it's Mario 64 but you have a skateboard and you chain together tricks with reverts and manuals to score big combos
Gamecube version is probably fine besides imo the control scheme not really being made for that controller. If it's your first time playing it though you'll probably get used to it easily.

Why THUG2 is the best? It has the most content which is good since I want to play Tony Hawk games for as long as possible. They should unironically make THPS6 and just make new levels, it can't be too hard since they already have the framework.

4 isn't bad, but it was absolutely dip in quality.
My biggest problem is how 4 became way too much about ridiculous long lines. Yeah, all the games have obvious lines, but aside from the infinite circle in THPS3's Rio (and kinda in foundry), I can't think of any other levels that feel so deliberately manufactured to have long fuck-off grinds that do all the work for you.
I also hate how so many special moves are dumb nonsense shit that should belong to secret characters, like pulling a pizza out of nowhere and eating it. I just want to do a fucking Rowley Bluntslide.

Yeah exactly, people latch onto Hawaii 'cause of That One Moment™, but aside from that and maybe the hotel/mall area, it's kinda mid. Moscow just oozes atmosphere, and the missions are way more varied. That giant plaza ledge into manual combos? Top tier flow. Honestly felt like a proper sendoff to the PS2-era level design before THUG2 went full clown fiesta.

Downhill Jam is a better game than THAW, Project 8 and Proving Ground combined
Eric Sparrow was partially justified in his actions up until Russia, at which point he went full retard
Being forced to play as Steve-O alone makes THUG2's story mode unsalvageable

I don't get this recent meme of 4 being bad. It was always my favorite and feels like a good balance between pro skater and underground. Feels like revisionist history because in 2000s internet it was well received. Only reason it wasnt as acclaimed as the others was because it wasn't as 'revolutionary' but it refined the formula. It's like how critics never gave a shit about Sonic 3 and Knuckles but praise Sonic 2.

Play THUG. THAW has awful writing, the goals are stupid easy and it feels like the entire game is one long tutorial. Most of the levels are bad too

Why do people rate 2 so highly? It's a good game, has great levels and a good soundtrack, it also has Spider-Man, but I fail to see how it is better than 3-4 or the Underground games. Those games have better physics, don't have the big drop, you have more abilities while skating, the soundtracks are a lot bigger while still being god-tier.

THPS2 is a great game, but is it really the peak of the series? I think it's even more ridiculous when people say THPS1. Another good game but one I don't find myself coming back to as often.
