I'm playing etrian odyssey 1 and it's fun but it's annoying having to run all the way back to the third floor. I also played disgaea and it was fun but I didn't finish it. Bravely default doesn't look great.

For me it goes something like:
EO > Disgaea 1 and 2 > BD1 > Disgaea after 2 > BD after 1
BD1 is probably a better game from a mechanical standpoint than the early Disgaea games but I could jever shake the feeling that it was just a soulless retread of FFV while Disgaea 1 and 2, especially the first, had real vision behind them.

EO1 is filled with deliberate annoying design choices like that to replicate the feeling the game's director had when he played dungeon crawlers as a kid. The early game is made artificially tedious because of the backtracking as a result but shortcuts will be relatively plentiful and conveniently-placed starting with floor 6.

I'm a longtime EO and Disgaea fan but I never played BD and don't intend to. I like games with party creation where I choose a generic and give them a name. Overall, the EO series is my favorite.

EO >> BD > Disgaea

EO is actually fun to play. BD is good for the first half of the game before it turned into the dogshit time loop it was. Disgaea is a good TRPG but its complexity is too high but not interesting enough for me to care.

Disgaea is the better game, easy to get into and then autistic to optimize.
EO is also a good game, hard to get into but once you know what you are doing you are gold

Etrian is the only good series out of those 3. Disgaea had 3 good games 2 of which were platformer spinoffs. Bravely was unironically never good, because the writers have no clue how to write or pace a story which makes the rest of the game suffer ass a result. Etrian, Eben at its worst with untold 1 story mode, still had fantastic music

I'm glad someone other than me finally said this. Bravely Default was such a fucking slog to play because the dialogue just never ended, but none of it was engaging either. The characters just talk in circles non-stop.

I'm a longtime fan of both EO and Disgaea but I've never played any games in the BD series since they don't interest me. I like being able to make parties full of generic units where I can choose each party members name and portrait. EO is one of my favorite series of all time actually.

Bravely just feels like a soulless husk of a franchise pandering to the people who want classic FF to come back, but Square will never commit to making a big-budget turn-based FF ever again. Disgaea and Etrian both have soul.

Because I played Disgaea first, but also I just prefer SRPG style gameplay to the first person dungeon crawl. I just don't know why but my brain likes it more. Also the characters having dialogue and personality helps me, I'm very sorry about this. I know about the creators wish for me to use my imagination but sometimes the scenes I imagine don't come close to being as good as the reality.

Also why is Bravely Default even in this lineup?

EO 3, 1U and 2U (despite some of the shittier changes in the untold versions) are inarguably top dog.
Bravely Default has one good game, one heavily flawed game, and we don't talk about BD2.

Bravely default. Only played the first, but it was the freshest 4 niggas gameplay had felt in years (and hasn't felt as fresh since). It was such a great dynamic combat system and it is a damn shame that no one learned from it.

I couldn't get into BD or Disgaea but I love Etrian and Octopath.

I'm still pissed we don't have the HD Remaster yet on PC. SquareEnix is as uneven as fuck, sometimes they release games on PC concurrently, include JP audio if available, are uncensored etc.and sometimes they do the opposite. There seems to be very little rhyme or reason to it. Hell Bravely Default (and Bravely Second) should have been remastered and released on PC in preparation to debut Bravely Default II ! Same thing with The World Ends With You Final Mix ; they brought NEO:TWEWY to PC though they did stupidly make it Epic exclusive for awhile and sold almost nothing during that time, but even when it came to Steam it didn't sell nearly as much as its a direct sequel and its predecessor was not on PC (Yeah yeah I know emulate the Switch's Final Mix, but it shouldn't come to that. Also I'm pretty sure you can't get JP audio with the NA version over there either).

Bravely Default's HD Remaster would obviously sell well on PC (ideally uncensored, though I will accept them aging the chars up if nothing else changes ), but no its stuck on Switch 2 for now for some god awful reason. This is even worse because as I recall, emulating the 3DS version requires either hacking or using a special Bravely Offline mod in order to get some degree of town building because the emulators can't suspend like you closed the thing and keep track of time spent Or maybe that's been fixed?

Disgaea is a little grindy for my taste but that's only if you have autism, so I'll allow it.
EO is better than it's remembered.
BD is under Square Enix so it was only a matter of time until they found some way to fuck it all up.

i only played disgaea. i gave it a chance because its silly and im glad i did. i dont have a high tolerance for rpgs of any hemisphere but theres a few i really like and it always comes down to the setting.

nta but there were no technical issues other than the transfer data EO2 guard in the second stratum crashing the game and that was patched already.
He's probably complaining about the prices.
Main issues are just the font for all 3 games and map-making just not being remotely on the same tier of NDS/3DS dual screen comfy. Otherwise, they're "ports" but just overall better including QoL.
