I dunno about the bugs but ai is crap and a lot of the times in skirmish/campaign just either spams units or just do it 3 times and then go afk for 5mins just to send another wave and then go afk again.
Pathfinding got better so at least it's something but my tank got stuck in a wall and couldn't move it at all.
Now it also runs like total ass

AI breaks even harder, ot goes complete passive mode if you either control most of the map or you have too much army. It only moves if you hdie your army in transports/orbital drops and behind HQ building. If you don;t do that, the enemy will hide his troops behind his own HQ making it a free win. If you attempt to jst limit yourself, the AI will spam swarms to drown you
some settings, like corpses on the floor and most notoriously shadows, will tank your FPS hard. Same with some special effects like snowing
Pathign looks a little better. But it only looks. In places where it actually matters,aka moving big armies or fighting a big battle, you have you usual shit like whole squad being afk and only the longest range member shooting, units getting stuck and dislocated etc. Same shit

None of the 40k vidya is canon. The only actual canon stuff is technically Codex books. Even Black Library books aren't considered canon due to a long standing stance of it both is and isn't according to GW. Even just Blood Ravens becoming a canon Chapter took a long time and was mostly just done offhand, and with a different Chapter emblem to the games presumably due to licensing stuff.

The tyranid mod was pretty cool when I tried it back in 2014 or so. I think we are entering a modding renaissance right now because a large amount of gamers have given up on the idea of corporations giving us what we actually want. Dow1 is basically seen as the ultimate warhammer 40k game by a lot of people. And DOW 2 and 3 should have simply been that but better each time which never happened because the developers were fucking retarded.

I do believe that people will start making more mods for this game because basically this is the only chance of getting a real warhammer experience. All the other games are a gimmick of some sort but this is the most honest 40k game. not saying there aren’t other fun games but playing as one space marine isnt the same thing and only controlling a squad or two isnt the same thing and playing as some random Tau soldier or whatever is neat and everything but what people want is a videogame approximation of fighting using various warhammer armies in a loose approximation of the table top game. You’re not going to get that from any other game than this. I sunk 100s of hours into this game off and on from 2005ish to today. It’s that fun.i always come back. In the previous version, I also got hard stopped at one or another stronghold where the game would ontinuously crash making me unable to progress.

Running it on a GTX 1050 Ti with 16GB of RAM, running WINE on Linux Mint.
There's been some framerate drops, but I notice they're all in the same manner as the original game. I chalk it up to the engine which, as far as I know, they didn't really touch for this edition outside of 64-bit support.

Does anyone know if there's a way to view the intro cutscenes for Dark Crusade and Soulstorm? The DC intro was censored in Germany, with a Space Marine being ripped in half by a Wraith being replaced with him just not being ripped in half, instead just spewing a bunch of blood. When the Anniversary Edition released a few years ago, it replaced that cutscene with the 'censored' version of it regardless of region, I guess to step around any further legal bullshit. I'm curious if this cutscene or even the file are present anywhere and if it's the censored version or not.

There's hardcoded limitations to how "intelligent" the AI can be, among other things. I know because I've asked in the modding discords. Thus their solution is to give an immense amount of free resources to it because it's just so dumb.

One of the strongest memories I have of the original DOW was that units would shoot while running (though often with reduced aim). It made combat feel more visceral and realistic and I never understood why this wasn't the norm in RTS games. Like maybe units should have a "sprint" mode where they don't fire while moving but run a little faster, but generally a unit with a gun should usually default to run-and-gun.
That feature really stood out to me and even playing it now it's fun to see.

One of the things I liked was that servitors (or whatever they're called for other factions), when tasked with repairing a vehicle, will literally follow that vehicle around to the ends of the earth to keep it patched up. Honestly, definitive edition really does not look like its worth the money at the moment, they did not really address any of the issues I had with the OG and most of the things would be fixable with mods. I mean, the original X-Com is a little different. I don't know what difficulty I played on Chaosgate, normal or hard, but it was honestly kinda hard to lose dudes. There weren't that many longterm progression goals that felt compelling. The original XCom has a better pacing of getting your teeth kicked in and having to prioritize things that actually even out the playing field more. Modern XComs are all too much about maintaining what you have for experience rather than the development and logistic management I find interesting in these, I guess.

The completely free intel/recon and her absurd movement combined is the half that makes her nuts to me. But even without her it just felt lole I solved the gameplay way too quickly and none of the upgrades to come were so interesting. I never finished it cus I eventually just got bored. Personally I think making it a GK game was a bit of a bad call since all their units are insanely similar ultimately. They did a great job with GK lore and stuff though so it was cool to see. Broadening the scope to be more about the inquisition as a whole, with sisters and deathwatch and gk depending on the threat, woulda been much more interesting as a premise for me. More options for meaningfully different units and gameplay scenarios.
Overall still an alright game though, I probably wouldn't have stuck with it as long if it wasn't some of the only good Grey Knights media around.

Why exactly do you think this game should be demanding at 4k? It's a CPU intensive game, designed to run on a single core. It's about as demanding as a web page for any card made in the last 5 years.
