There's a timeline where Mortal Kombat stopped being a fighting game series and moved wholly into an action/adventure franchise

it's what the fans actually want out of the series to be honset. hype moments, aura, and epic fatalities. character quips. cutscenes.

I've gotten the impression that Ed Boon wants to take a break from fighting games as well. I think he said as much in an interview a few years ago. WB ain't gonna let that happen though.
