Yup, I never really liked Devil May Cry. Shit feels like an arcade game, just not my thing.
While the controls of DMC are super janky now, IMO it's forgivable because it was doing a ton of things at the same time that other games weren't doing. Not many games even now allow you to go from cover into a bullet time shootdodge followed by executing an enemy with his own gun and then jumping off a wall to roundhouse kick another bad guy in the face. The elaborate cheat terminal complete with hidden levels and even a hidden multiplayer fighting mode (complete with multiple levels) were all really neat, too.
I really hate the idea of anything being "modernized", but if any game could benefit from a modern control scheme it's this one.
