stick drift cured my gaming addiction
haven't played a game since finishing death stranding 1Β½ months ago because of severe stick drift on my controller. i just refuse to accept that I'd essentially be rewarding the company that made the controller with another $50 purchase for having made an intentionally shitty product. fuck you. imagine paying someone for breaking your shit.

Fags on here criticize the n64 controller because of retarded shit speed runners do to break the controller or fuck up the stick, yet I still have my original one and it works great and no stick drift. itβs basically a 30 year old controller and it still works. Meanwhile a Xbox one controller has something wrong with it in half a year or a year. Itβs amazing really they must design modern controllers to fail on purpose.

Well, sticks are usually a different story since Alps basically has a monopoly on that.
That said, Sony and MS solder them directly to the board and make getting into the controller an absolute hassle to do so much so that most just opt to buy a new controller.

I barely played my N64 with, at most, 20 games rented total and two or three owned games, none of them intensive on controls or Mario Party, and the stick was giving in. It's flawed design, period.

I have a first generation DS4 that I use for everything still. I've had two others, later, "better" generations that are basically shit now. Their sticks have worn down from the casing being harder than the stick, making it hard to press them while moving. The d-pads are basically mush. Yet, the first generation DS4 has none of these issues. I regularly use it for TGM4 master mode, and can't do that with any newer controller I have reliably. We're going backwards. If Gamecube controllers had one more button I'd use them for every 3D game, and my trusty ancient DS4 for 2D until it dies.

Why are you even trying to defend that? Do you think everyone just has an iron, solder and flux lying around? They could have just as easily put in screw in sticks which are infinitely easier and less tedious than soldering. You did even touch on opening the controller since they both use those awful plastic tabs you have to prise off and possibly damage before you get into it.
Whether you like it or not they're designed to be as hostile to self repair as possible.

Drift on the Dualsense is an even bigger issue than on the DS4. You can buy a controller and you get drift within months, like 4 months.
The only options you got are:
>spend $250 on a controller with Hall Effect (Hexgaming Phantom)
>buy a Dualsense with Hall Effect pre-installed and calibrated for $150
>learn to weld and do it yourself
A welding station costs like $40 and the Hall Effect sticks only cost like $2.

You don't often need to solder new ones in, you can just pop the potentiometer track out and replace it with a new one, and pop it back into place. ~20 minute fix. Sucks that they soldered the rumble parts in though if they didn't you'd only need a phillips screwdriver to fix stick drift.

I personally think that it's easier to get into, DS4 has some weird positioning with the light bar. But the DS5 has solder points for the vibration motors that stop you from pulling the board out and getting to the potentiometers, but its not that complicated just need a soldering station
I think there's like two different versions of the DS5 as well now?

You can fix most stick drift with an $18 can of DeoxIt, it cleans out any debris and lubricates the contacts. You probably don't even need to disassemble the controller, just pull out the sticks as far as they'll go, hold the sticks down in a direction and spray along the edge then rotate it around to allow it to seep into the sensors.
