I say this as someone who will probably eventually buy one because I like splatoon multiplayer: the steam deck and even the other portable pc offerings are all wildly better value propositions than the switch 2 and I think they're going to remain that way for the duration of the console. Nintendo did basically nothing to step up their game in between the switch 1 and 2 while they've allowed competition to creep into a space that they basically had all to themselves up until a few years ago after Sony gave up on the vita.
Yeah yeah I know Nintendo will ultimately be fine but I don't think they're acting wisely at the moment, especially with the switch 2's lame-ass launch.

The gameplay is really fun in these games but I always cringe at the people who cry "peak fiction". The stories are the worst part about Xenoblade, they're bloated, unfocused, and have horrible pacing. They're so bad that it actually makes me think the stories are bad on purpose, for comedic effect. I'm actually stunned that so many people recommend these games on the basis of their "storytelling".
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was especially bad, but I can't overlook XC2's mess of a narrative too. XC1 is definitely the least offensive but it's by no means great either.

Biggest recommendation I can give you is to feed Lanz silver coins until he gets to level 10 Soulhacker.
That way you learn the blue mage skill and don't have to keep him in the class, since it's pretty awful at the start when you haven't learned enough arts.
Also you only have to learn the skills once, every character can then use them once they reclass.

2's ending is overrated as hell. it literally wasn't planned to the point Takahashi didn't even think of a reason to split Pyra and Mythra into two people and openly did it for fanservice. They weren't even supposed to explicitly survive. We also never once see the new world.

If you max out both their Affinity Charts and get them to S+ Trust, they're comparable. Pyra has extremely high damage output tied to combos, while Mythra is built around her 100% crit rate (crit recharge, crit healing). It ends up being Pneuma that falls behind both of them since you can't switch out while using her, nor can you upgrade her Trust, stuck doing around 50% of their maximum damage. Really she's only good for setting missing elemental orbs and Chain Attacks, and you can't even get the level IV Full Burst until you do NG+. And yet you feel like a god the first time you ever use her.
