Because they're reruns of previous Legend Races, if you won the 60-80 star pieces in the first event, you can skip a lot of the waiting.
In short you're rewarded for keeping up with the game, obviously if you take a 10 months break you're going to miss a lot of those Legend races and it'll make grinding Star Pieces later harder.

Best place to start is sprinters/milers that have training boosts to speed and/or power

Anyway, it's easier to do 2xSS+ stats than 1xSS and a couple ~850s and a 500 (or so)
Sparks in sta/pow
Can do it with enough SR uncaps and borrowing Kita
For example Vodka (trainee) gets BoFA at pot 3 so that's recovery sorted without Creek. 3spe/2pow/1speed/wit/friend, pick up enough stam from training power, but still mostly train speed

actually 4+ is considered finished growing, hence why there are races for only 3yos, and some where 3yos race with older where they are allowed to carry less weight than 4+.

a horse that has a really good season as a 3yo though will have a lot more potential value as a stud that they don't want to risk an injury, or a falloff in career, so a lot will retire after 3yo season or after 1 or 2 races in the early 4yo season like pegasus world cup or dubai world cup.
