Tetris is the best video game of all time
Doesn't matter which Tetris version. Game formula is consistently fun, despite the different versions throughout the years. Unlimited replayability. Multiplayer. It just never gets boring.

Tetris Effect: Connected. It's the best one to play if you don't have Tetris. Also on VR and it looks and sounds INCREDIBLE. I believe it's like the classic/retro one with the NES mechanics (no holding blocks) ect.

Let me specify more, it's a game mode in Tetris Effect Connected. Forgot the name exactly.

No that's normal. Sometimes I play it for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, sometimes an hour.

There's tons of Tetris versions and sequels. Are there any BAD Tetris games?

tetris elements on PC is the worst tetris game I've ever had the displeasure of playing. there's a horrible one with inconsistent piece appearance delay, and the rotation system is glitchy, and the ARE and DAS are low as fuck
tetris ultimate takes the cake, though. it was made by ubisoft interns. the game is so fucking glitchy it has memory leaks and crashes. if your friend list is too long, it slows down to a crawl. online is so fucking shitty, desyncs are common (your opponent's field shows like them having topped out, but they keep playing)

I disagree with this, once I started playing TGM rules I basically never looked back. Effect is fine for the presentation aspect, but at the end of the day it's still just guideline Tetris + zone mechanic. Tetris DS is my favorite guideline Tetris game and I find myself wanting to just play that.
The raid boss battles are cool, probably the only thing worth coming back for alongside that one more with the random effects (mystery I think it's called?).

the only tetris that improved on the formula is The New Tetris; the perfect 4x4 blocks made of 4 tetraminoes fits very well with the underlying math of the game

Read that wrong
Tetris Effect is definitely a good starting point for the series, like if you had to own one Tetris game, it should be that or Tetris DS.

The New Tetris is stinky. There's a mechanic where you can make squares and it's right in the middle of the old style and new guideline mandates and it's the worst of both. I wasn't crazy about Tetris Worlds because the different modes weren't really all that interesting and I feel a lot of people that say it is good are talking out a place of nostalgia. Tetris Ultimate is atrocious, probably should never have been released. Someone else already mentioned it but it is true. And you know what? I am going to be a bit controversial here but Tengen/Atari Tetris at arcades... no idea why it is as popular as it is. The game has mechanics that are built to fuck you such as one rotation direction and the really shit randomizer for pieces. The game just lets you start on hard with +40,000 score which I feel is terrible for going for high scores at an arcade standpoint even if it is trivial to go through the easy/normal phases. If we had got SEGA Tetris stateside, that piece of shit would not be as fondly remembered like it is.

play nullpomino or TGM
>tengen

>tetris effect
I'd rather play puyo tetris 2

>low as fuck
meant high as fuck. it's unresponsive. not to mention that the ARE is inconsistent, so it throws off your timing

I will never recommend TGM to someone just starting out in the series. All of the cool shit is locked behind being good at the plain-ass mode in pretty much every single TGM. Guideline games at the very least switch it up for people without this prerequisite. Only thing I can think of where this isn't the case is non TGM4 versus and KONOHA in TGM4.
Tetris DS has modes that all have the same initial difficulty ramp up comparatively which is why I would recommend it as a starting point as the post was literally "Tetris Effect: Connected. It's the best one to play if you don't have Tetris", not objectively the best one.
>nullpomino
Well at that point if we're recommending open source stuff sure, either that or apotris on the GBA.

tgm is there as a single-player challenge game. some people are into that
>tetris effect
with puyo tetris you get 2 games for the price of one and the computer has gradual difficulty curve (depends on character + core mode) instead of flipping between deadweight and no-life jap tryhard.
other games to try are magical tetris challenge (unique multiplayer mechanics), tetris plus (puzzle missions), tetris battle gaiden (tetris with super skills), the new tetris (square tetris where you have to form squares. bonus points if they're made of the same piece), quadra (cascading tetris), and cultris (unique weird combo clear attack system)

I would love to play nullpomino but its impossible to setup my gamepads with it, it even crashes, having to edit the cfg file to be able to start again.

Everyone moved to tetrio because tetris' combo system is broken and it will never be changed. Unfortunately this is not your screenshot, so looks like you have no interest in playing it either.
