Anonymous No.718162048 >>718163890
Some people were anti-shilling it so hard that some specific insults against 8bitdo got added to /v/'s spam filter.

8bitdo Pro 2 and onwards, Gamesir, and IINE have good controllers.

I have a pro2 and love it so far. Only complaint I have is that the triggers have like 270 degrees of travel so it feels a bit weird. Works great otherwise though. I use it for GBVSR these days.

I have the Pro 2. It feels really good in the hands and the face buttons are nice but it still feels a little cheap in build quality. I dropped it twice and on the second drop, the plastic cover for one of the triggers broke off and some of the plastic behind one of the back buttons got dislodged.
Hopefully they improved things with the Pro 3, especially since they're charging more for it.

the 8bitdo xbox hal is unironically the best controller I got, for the simple fact it is a year old and don't have drift compared to every single other controller I had
Anonymous No.718164291 >>718164824
>>718163890
Sounds like it was a pretty substantial drop, or it managed to hit the controller just so, those toppers for the triggers take some pretty serious force to dislodge from my disassembling and reassembling of them. On a Pro 2 what I found to be the most fragile part was the plastic post that the L1/R1 buttons anchor onto inside the controller.

Beyond that I'm generally pretty impressed by 8bitdo build quality, I find the SN30 Pro's quality nearly interchangeable with original SNES controllers. I'm especially dazzled by their contact membranes, for the buttons and d-pad; they're Nintendo quality. I peeled apart a couple of SNES controllers I bought off of eBay to harvest their membranes, did an experimental swap of 8bitdo membranes into the SNES controller, and didn't really feel much of a difference past the ABXY buttons being a skosh lighter. Unfortunately the other way around didn't apply; putting SNES membranes into a Pro 2 (with a slight trim for fitting) ended up being a downgrade, the 8bitdo membranes are designed better for being compressed and having almost no room between the PCB contacts and the actual d-pad piece, the SNES membranes don't feel right in it.

For releases in the last year, you can safely blind buy on Gulikit (Elves 2, ES, ES Pro), Flydigi (Vader 4 Pro, Direwolf 3, Apex 5), and BigBig Won (Blitz 2 TMR, Aether)
Gamesir's had a pretty good track record, but Tarantula has issues with latency and the d-pad
8Bitdo's good if you avoid the models with Bluetooth in the name. They consistently cheap out on the chipsets for the PS-shaped Pro models too for whatever reason, despite charging premium price for them. Variable latency even wired makes succeeding at 1f links random chance, and even the Pro 3 didn't fix this.
Shanwan and IINE have decent selection for pocket and keychain-sized controllers, among other things
Other brands like PXN, Machenike, Mobapad, EasySMX, and Fantech have some good controllers, and a good amount of not-so-good ones.

I'm pretty sure when it fell it landed directly on the right trigger, it only fell around 2 feet off the floor and I saw the trigger cover fly off. At least it was pretty easy to reattach, and the trigger itself still works fine.
I'm waiting on reviews before I decide whether or not to replace it with a Pro 3.

I'm loving this little guy for emulation and modern 2d games. All the buttons feel good and are easy to press, and the input lag is imperceptible over bluetooth because of the high poling rate. It has smooth hall effect sticks, but the travel on them is low, so I can't imagine wanting to use them for much beyond maybe full circle inputs and navigating world tour mode in SF6. It's absolutely not a one size fits all controller, but it doesn't have to be when it costs 30 bucks.

Forget anons, even most reviewers are surface level shills giving you first impressions with little to nothing of substance, perpetuating memes like polling rate = input latency, or hyping the new thing to consume. Best case you find a non-English autist who goes over every little detail and doesn't give a shit about views, but even then QC variance and personal preferences can make anything short of trying it yourself with a guaranteed return policy a crapshoot.

The build quality isn't great, I agree. It's a controller you should buy to upgrade in the future, if you want something as sturdy as a SNES controller, 8bitdo does not have that.
At its peak, the Pro 2 is the best controller I've ever had. Right now, it's desperately needing a Pro 3 to replace it.
If you think having the best controller you've owned for like 3~4 years and then upgrading sounds like a good deal for the price, then it's worth it. If not, then it's not.

8bit do is shit.

I have the pro 2 and I dealt with it until I got this one. The only flaw I have is it's wired. Whoever thought of that is an idiot.

The buttons are great, the dpad is BETTER than the pro 2, rivals the ds4 pad and SNES pad.

For $20 I can't complain. But it needs to be wireless. Motherfucker it's 2025. Everything is wireless because it's been perfected. Stop this shit.

It's the first time in a very long time I've been happy with a membrane d-pad. I just worry I'm going to go through rubbers quickly on it because I'm used to pressing hard on mechanical ones now.
I expected to hate the sticks, but they were perfectly fine to use for Nightreign, Demon's Souls, and the underwater sections of Tropical Freeze. The smoothness is pleasant, I never noticed Dualsense sticks had friction until I went back to it after.
Only real complaint is no back buttons, but I guess that's how Gulikit sells the Libra Max down the road.

>Only real complaint is no back buttons
I buy dpad-centric controllers with the intention of mostly playing platformers and fighters, two genres which don't really need extra buttons. Personally I'd like gulikit to make a new variant with six face buttons and two sticks, but It's not too bad coping with the four button+four shoulder button setup of the elves 2, because it's small and ergonomic enough that you can comfortably press both the bumpers and triggers with just your index fingers.

Vader 3 and Vader 4 Pro controllers are easily some of the best out there for the money. I bought my GF a Gamesir for 40 bucks and it also is extremely good for the price. So there is a lot of great controllers these days. I have a Switch 2 Pro controller and it is alright best of first party controllers but 3rd party is so far ahead it really isn't close.

It being a portable symmetrical with capable bluetooth gives it a wider range of purpose than just d-pad games for me. I wouldn't have thought back buttons would be viable on a controller this size anyway, but after actually using it the grips are substantial enough that the flush back button style Gamesir and Machenike use would definitely work.
>two genres which don't really need extra buttons
You don't need them, but they're still sometimes nice to have. The Make a Good Mega Man Level games make full use of a standard controller, so it's useful to have a back button or two for rebinding some face buttons so jump/slide don't interrupt mashing shoot. I wouldn't expect to find use for fighting games, but maybe there's some games that'd appreciate extra buttons for nonstandard binds like dash or RC shortcuts.

All the 8bitdo shilling of years past has me extremely sceptical of all the gamesir shilling going on now.
I bought the sf30pro because people kept insisting that it was splendid and because I had always (and still) favour the simple form factor of the SNES controller and other classic controllers.

But when I got the controller, I'll admit that it's pretty nice to hold. It's a fairly decent controller. So it's not terrible. But
It has sub par buttons. A sub par dpad. Sub par sticks.

It's just kind of slightly sub par in pretty much all fields.
But in a neat form factor and the simple option to swap between various input signals or being able to connect it to both PC and consoles gives it some plug & play factor that can be nice.
But the controller is not better than first-party controllers at all. But people would not stop jerking off to it.

I bet the Dualsense or Switch2 Pro controllers are a lot better than whatever the fuck the Gamesir controllers are.
>b-but magnetic sticks
I still bet the controllers are overall worse. But maybe I'm wrong. Would be cool if I was.

But the sf30pro is distinctly worse than the pro controller. I love that it has got symmetrical sticks. But as I said. The buttons, sticks, and dpad are all sub par. Even the sf30pro's dpad is only ever so slightly better than the pro controller's dpad and the pro controller's dpad sucks. In all other fields the pro controller is distinctly superior.

Oh yeah, I mixed them up. SF30Pro was the funny micro controller. Yeah it's not great but for a pocket controller/guest pad I think it's decent, at least after you fix the dpad.
SN30 Pro 2 is the much improved full size one that humbled the Switch Pro controller. The new ones are even better, while I think the Switch 2 Pro controller is actually even worse.

Chink controllers were mostly meme until around 2023. Not just because of hall effect, but shitty chipsets and stick algorithms were commonplace until Gamepadla brought general awareness to the fact that most chinkshit was laggy as fuck, among other problems. Also had bad experiences with early 8Bitdo and I hated the shilling for Gulikit KK2 and 3, but Gulikit's recent releases have been great.
>I bet the Dualsense or Switch2 Pro controllers are a lot better
Depends on how much you value the unique qualities of each. I typically favor Dualsense over Gamesir Cyclone 2 for the touchpad, symmetrical layout, and quiet membrane buttons, but I like Cyclone 2's back buttons, trigger stops, sticks, d-pad, and access to 2.4ghz wireless more. Cyclone 2 also cost 1/3 as much at the time.
