It's really mediocre. The combat feels decent but everything else sucks. There are many moments in that game that made me just realize how badly designed that game is. For example there is this one quest where you have to sneak into the second floor of an insurance company's office so you can tamper with the records. Seemingly at first you have two choices to deal with this quest: either pick the door or jump on to the second floor's balcony via neighboring houses. Pretty typical quest design in this type of a game, but then for some goddamn reason the devs decided to add a ladder outside that leads straight on to the balcony. This third option requires no thought or skill to reach the second floor. This small moment for this little side quest was so baffling that I decided to uninstall the game. It doesn't deserve my time anymore. At least it was free on ebin games store.

no the gameplay is so shallow. it is like a very barebones fallout 4, but with more standard gunplay. played 10-15 hours and it might be my biggest regret as a gamer. trash is fun because it is funny/broken, good games are good because they are good, this game is so average so mediocre that it is painful.

it was really mediocre, instead of having one giant open world map they have several planetside locations and you navigated to them using the galaxy map
and this is not AI generated, the art in this game was genuinely this bad
all the companions were boring as fuck and their companion quests equally dull
they ran out of budget for weapons and enemies so a couple hours in you were already seeing palette swaps of weapons
most of the locations sound interesting but once you actually get there they were incredibly dull, all the space station places essentially look the same

it alright. It felt like a breath of fresh air after Fallout 4 because it actually has one or two CRPG writing and the writing is GENERALLY better although that's not a high bar

IMO mostly it's that the setting just doesn't have many interesting questions to explore. Corporations are greedy and short-sighted and will literally kill the human race (by accident) before they give up profit and power. That's the long and short of it. The most compelling stuff was exploring what the perspective was of people who literally can't conceive of anything beyond a life under corporate ownership.

I know Fallout 4 isn't exactly high art but you are fucking delusional. Outer Wilds 'CRPG mechanics' are so shallow you can literally respec your build on the fly whenever you want.

being able to respec on the fly is just a thing CRPGs do now lol, div2 had the respec mirror available whenever because they don't want people to get filtered by bricked builds. think of it what you will

what i mean is they have things like actual skill checks/special dialogue and a mix of perks and skills. FO4 is such an unfathomably low bar that I'd barely call it an RPG, It's almost closer to something like Far Cry. when a single NPC in far harbor had a medicine check it was this huge "holy shit" moment to me and outer worlds wasn't that bad

I think at Bethesda they can do big marketable concepts and bid ideas that feel really dumb under scrutiny. They're terrible at writing human beings making human decisions, and I thought Outer Worlds was a bit better there. I feel like the hallmark of modern beth writing is that a character makes a decision and I want to object to it or question it, but I can't- I don't think I ever had that problem in Outer Worlds.

That isn't what it is at all. At every opportunity the corporations are shown to be both comically evil and comically retarded, with nothing that would even attempt to justify their existence or explain why anyone puts up with them.

The Institute, for all the writing faults, made sense as something that lost it's plot long ago. Father admits nobody at the Institute knows what the fuck to do anymore so they just do aimless experiments that don't accomplish anything long term.

the stupidity of the corporations in Outer Worlds is often played up for comedy's sake, sometimes it can be construed as a result of the person growing up UNDER corporations and being indoctrinated, but if you think >corporation just grows and grows and does anything that it thinks will make it grow more and ignores any influence that says 'you need to stop growing for a minute

is an insane caricature I feel like you haven't looked outside or you've decided to ignore what you saw for ideology's sake. The institute is this organized, powerful organization that doesn't know what it's doing, it doesn't make any sense, and it's not even a more interesting and fun portrayal of "what if mad science had zero guard rails" than, I hate to say it, OWB.

The corporations in Outer Worlds aren't very interesting because they're pretty much what you think they're going to be, but there's nothing wrong with the portrayal at all. It's not CORPORATION BAD it's corporation is a corporation

It's okay.
The first area is a great first impression but you slowly realize it's basically just that repeated over and over. Humor might also be hit or miss. I thought it was mostly funny but others thought it was too preachy.

The two expansions suck. First one takes the humor too far and the second is a weird tonal shift into pure grimdark that doesn't fit the rest of the setting.

Try it out for 15 bucks and not a cent over.

there are several groups of rebels that are doing just fine.

the issue is that the game was written with both New Vegas and Witcher 3 in mind, and in an attempt to dissuade there being a correct choice or faction, they made them just as stupid, corrupt, inept, and overall bad as the corporations

really all the problems with the writing of the game can be traced back to a single rotten core, which is that the writers have no idea how to create new ideas. it's all existing stuff - mostly pulled from popular online movements of the 2010s and other games - smooshed together without artistry or even careful thought.

they genuinely don't know how to create something that is genuine, nor do they know how to satirize something that hasn't been done so many times already that the caricature is now itself being satirized instead of the original thing.

someone who is that overweight is actually in a massive calorie surplus and thus not starving. did you mean to say something else?

but you'd have to be an extreme shut-in with no social connections period - including online - to not know people who struggle to feed themselves with adequate nutrition. try not to think of cartoons where starving people look like funny little skeletons, they look very different in real life.

You are either absolutely retarded, or you didn't play Fallout 4. Either way, you shouldn't talk about it. If you're dumb, you definitely shouldn't talk about anything, ever. If you didn't play Fallout 4, you shouldn't talk about it.

Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOk59ZjWYIw

I don't agree with all points, but basically that's what a 100 IQ analysis on the Institute looks like. Just a normie. Average intelligence.

The Institute reaches the rarest point that is so hard to criticism: where you can't pinpoint one bad writing decision, because of all the others. You need a fucking 100 pages essay to even begin to untangle all the bad writing decisions in this one.

>You are fucking retarded. They explain why they made Synths indistinguishable from humans. The plot is literally about how they went about doing so.
No they didn't. They want control of the Commonwealth. They had control of the Commonwealth in the lore 30 years ago. They decided they didn't want control of the Commonwealth instead, and instead sent Replicants to take control of the Commonwealth. That's the level of writing you're fucking advocating for.

>They never intended for Synths to be sentient and can't see the obvious because it doesn't fit with how they see the world.
Lol.

>The institute are a parallel to the Enclave, only instead of the military they're a bunch of egg heads. They have a nebulous goal of improving the world but have stagnated and don't actually do anything to do it. This is literally why Father has you appointed as his successor, to give the Institute a purpose.
Agreed. Bethesda's Enclave is badly written. Not, and never, even in Fallout 4, on the level of the Institute though.
