For 1998, his scripts were above average. But really, they're not great. He's the classic localizer who thinks he's better than the people wrote the shit he's assigned to translate. The accents he gives some characters are retarded (notably Mei Ling; she's not an ESL chink that arrived from Shanghai, she's an American raised in Berkley), and his attempts at covering up some of the cringier lines sound even worse (like Mantis saying helping Snakes "feels....nice", like that's the only word he could substitute for "nostalgic").

And then there's his attempts at lying about things he translated like "HALO Jump" for MGS3, which he never worked on.

His writing has been pretty consistent for his whole career. Entertaining but stupid stories with themes relevant to the time they were made.

You watch the cutscenes in MGS4 and it's just endless exposition vomit that treats you like an idiot, scenes that drag on for 10 times longer than they should, stilted dialogue that feels like it was directly translated by an AI.
