I fought the first boss and the gameplay is pretty bad. The boss can attack from across the screen but your own movement is very slow. In order to dodge you need to go underground but the time required to get underground means you need to be outside of the attack range anyway. Also the time you can be underground is very limited so even when you pop back up you're going to be in the enemy range anyway.
Also your HP restoration items don't restore after death which is pure bullshit. If you want to use Hollow Knight's soul system for healing, don't tack on a limited number of uses per life too.

i don't know how important context is to other people, but this is assumedly the same developers who charge the same kind of price for the same quality expected from their previous titles. I don't give hundreds of other random games the same level of scrutiny, because they don't have a kickstarter campaign that was funded and likely squandered when BLM was still a thing, five years before releasing.

I did it. It’s not that hard. Having to dig to run quickly is annoying though. Unique I guess.

Shovel Knight was only as well received as it was because of the time it came out. These days, better indie games come out monthly
