I joined my friends at the the pokemon center, and they also visited sqare enix and some kind of nintendo restaurant, all in Tokyo. They do feel very touristy to me though my friends were in heaven. A lot of the nighborhood shopping districts have random shops full of figurines and such too, and the aimless wandering was my favorite part of my trip, so you could find cool stuff that way too.

Akihabara is shit, all the gamecenters got turned into claw machines and the few games that remain are hogged by chinks in a tiny closed room that reeks of sweat

My advice for buying second hand vidya is to go to Suraguya's in more rural areas around these cities.
Prices in Akihabara are inflated for tourists.

Not really. Bookoff has been closing down stores left and right, and the ones in touristic areas are tourist traps.
Akihabara another tourist trap. You can find good deals if you're looking for imported games tho (don't touch them, leave them to us gaijins living in Tokyo.)
I can recommend you some scenic routes, if you aren't a lazy landwhale.

When in Osaka just south of shin osaka station go to a small local arcade called monte50. it's 50 yen a play and there's alot of great middle aged office workers playing classic fighting games. I had a fantastic rotation going in sf4 there.
