It's very fun, probably one of the best RPGs of all time and a guaranteed classic if not a masterpiece. A full campaign takes around 100 hours of played time. My advice is to go in completely blind. Don't look up guides, don't look up where to get all the best loot, don't look up spoilers. It's an enthralling experience if you do it that way trust me

Then you're in for a real treat. Imo set the difficulty at normal and just focus on the story. If you've never played 5e DnD there us quite a learning curve in terms of combat especially. Also this anon >>718173637 is absolutely correct as well. Just because you "fail" on a given roll doesn't mean you'll get the "bad" outcome. That's not really how the game is structured

It's not as intrusive and widespread as you'd assume. Very, very minor spoiler: the focal point of all this is the celebration that happens after you solved the big issue of Act1 one way or another. If you have companions recruited and your approval rating is at least half-way decent they're all try to get into your pants. There's one who's as direct as possible, another is similar except she doesn't ask the final question, another is more ambiguous and if you're done with it you're done, if not he acts like you just misunderstood him; then we still have the famed "you wanna a see a wizard trick?" man whose offer can still be somewhat confusing. Other than this I haven't encountered anything disturbing in Act1.

Aww, glowie mod is mad again
OP, as I have said. BG3 is a gay dating simulator that pretends to be an RPG.
Act one was in early access and is the most fleshed out, but nevertheless you're going to be hit with every male character trying to get you for gay sex.
In act 2 this problem intensifies and you will notice the dramatic drop in quality of everything other than gay romance, especially writing. Act2 itself is centered around a lore-breaking lesbian couple.
Act3 is when they stop pretending to care about story and writing and make it into a gay dating sim sandbox.
Troughout the game exactly 50% of characters of any fantasy race are niggers, and you will be occasionally reminded gay people exist in casual conversation dialogue between npcs.

As far as I know, you can't remove the gay romance options, best you can do is just try not to get too friendly, which sucks, because similarly to what >>718176914 said, it triggers despite you not doing anything seductive or indicative that you want romance with that person.
>talk to wizard guy, hear him out
>act sympathetic towards him
>try to be a more or less decent person
>*wizard guy approval up*
>one night at camp
>wizard guy, outta nowhere, invites me to look at his magical underwear in his tent when I next talk to him
>same wizard guy that says he was in a hetero relationship with a certain deity
>lose interest in the game

What they should do to avoid this is to put the romance behind a dialogue trigger, with a big 'ol warning saying something like 'STARTS ROMANCE'

Other than that, the gameplay itself is good, but the characters kinda suck.

Other anons point this out, and anyone who played the game should know this too: being a slightly decent person to most of the companions improves their approval rating with you which feeds into their likelihood for romance.
That, in conjunction with doing their quests, can usually lock tight their approval. In my first playthrough, I basically took up any good aligned quest I could. Despite all its mid tier writing, the core gameplay is pretty fun, so I wanted to see as much of it as possible.
The fact that Halsin will visit you at night to proposition you just because you did a heroic thing that happened to align with his interests is just bad writing. It's clear that they wanted to put this stuff in but didn't have enough content to stretch out the relationship building so they just put the capstone on super early.

Another thing: don't underestimate the power of Speak with Animals (certain classes can learn it, otherwise rely on potions), Speak with Dead (the game's first dungeon will solve this for good) and the value of vertical dimension.

Now you don't have to play a high STR char just because of this, but I ended up doing it and the amount of places I was able to Jump surprised me a great deal. Some of them have ladders, making it accessible for everybody; plus you'll find magical gears and can craft potions that helps with this so it's not a high STR or bust situation. It just felt good knowing that if a platform was designed to be accessible I'll able to get there own my own. Throwing was another big surprise with that char: I could just grab and toss small races into chasms on a whim. No loot but the combat ended before it began.

It is the worst in the series (if you only consider BG1 - 3 + expansions; it is better than the side games).

Gameplay wise, it is great if you like turn-based RPGs, but other than that it is an inconsistent mess with annoying characters and visuals, plus the awful treatment they gave to the old lore and characters.

Definitely bad writing. There aren't ANY options to "deepen your friendship" without getting sexually involved with your companions. Pretty much every RPG prior to this that had companion quests had romance, yes, but they also had you doing side quests for them because you care about your homies. I genuinely thought gale was an interesting character (at first) and I just wanted to bro it up with him. But female and homosexual writers have no concept of fraternity, thus it does not exist in game.
