Football Manager has stats and it can get kind of autismo if you get deep into it but you're not meeting thresholds for objectives per se. You play literally the manager of a team/club, hire players, schedule matches, plan how they play, manage their relationships so they don't ditch your team, finances, etc so training is a part of that. Bigger picture than Uma where you're a one-on-one trainer trying to make the most of the prime of your athlete's career. They could make a spinoff where you are actually the Team Sirius trainer or whatever and you have to train everyone though

As for which cards it depends on the trainee, they have different aptitudes for skills. Check their stats to see which one they’re proficient in i.e. bakushin gets a speed bonus. You want to play to their strengths generally. 4 speed cards and 2 stamina for medium/long racers is a common one. For shorter you can swap out stamina for power or throw a wit card in there for better recovery. Just experiment and see what works. You also want to think about what abilities each card gives you and if its gonna benefit your racers style or just have useful abilities in general. I havent trained a Symboli Rudolf but I heard her career is a little tricky. Generally speaking you want your parents to give you stamina sparks as its hard to train on most umas and important for anything that’s not sprint or mile, and especially important for medium/long.

Power is only strictly better than Speed in Sprint. Late/End also has higher Max Speed on Last Spurt than Pace/Front, so it's always better to max Speed first, then increase your Power accordingly. Especially when Power Training also increase your Stam, which you dont need too high if you train for Sprint.
