It does suck you have to make concessions for modern fighting game trends if you want to enjoy a game anymore. It's like they tried to evolve the genre into rock-paper-scissors-shotgun and actually balance that, and it wasn't necessary. But then, what is necessary? Why shouldn't I just play ST and 3S forever, and finally knuckle down and learn KoF '98 or Last Blade 2 if I want to branch out? Rev blow does get fun to use and play around once you open up to it, but that opening up is something that takes working towards. I think footsies is something that works in layers, or I guess a stack is the common vernacular as in mental stack, and the way universal mechanics interact in CotW builds on that as opposed to reducing or outright temporarily nullifying it like SF6. SF6 is for the posers, the "modern audience" though and though. You had to orbit fighting games and SF for years without actually playing anything to unironically like SF6. Its not a coincidence that every seasoned player thinks this game is shit, we're not just being funny. This game is like how Brawl is to Melee. Everything in it was designed to make the game as kiddy and random as possible. Except there's an added dimension of catering to posers. SF is a highly gatekept fighting game because it used to be so dependent on zoning, antiairing, and chip/lockdown.

Setplay and mixup was important too but it was always a clash of these two styles and players could still pick either one. You had zoners walling you out, and some mixup characters robbing you. This made it so there was a concept of "fundamental skill" you needed (in theory) to be good at fighting games.

This was all true for years even up to SF5, but during that era, Esports became huge. Casuals are fully aware of what good players are doing, and online is so good that you can get your ass raped in 60fps any time of the day. SF6 was made to address this problem that fighting games were unfair to skillless players. People play SF6 and are suddenly doing 60% optimal combos when they couldn't do shit before. It's like taking hard drugs for the first time, they feel the POWER. And they are having more fun as a result.

On top of all this, there is also the denial that SF6 is these things. SF6 is one of those games where people are lying to themselves when talking about it because of the money surrounding the scene. Content creators have to glaze this game, pros have to appease their fans, etc. Its like a political thing where you can't say outright that something is the way it is, you have to beat around the bush. That's how people describe the accessibility and mechanics of this game. The people who are having fun with SF want to still think they're playing a fighting game, so they're in denial.

SF5 has two different sets of problems (well 3 if you count lack of content, but we're just talking about gameplay I'm assuming)
1. It still a game that requires you to block patiently and jump carefully. Shitters will get destroyed just by anti airs and fireballs and the anti-fireball v skills only do so much. Frame traps are everywhere and you can't mash or you'll be stunned and destroyed.
2. The forced 50/50s and the robbery V triggers some characters have make this game silly and random. There are also plenty of ex moves that instantly end neutral and cannot be reacted to (even moreso before the input delay fix).

When someone on /v/ says SF5 sucks, they're a silver player who is learning the game and can't even get past the basics like don't mash when you're minus, don't jump so much. Street Fighter 6 has none of those requirements, there are no base skills needed in SF6 and you can mash and parry and jump and drive rush all you want. Things that are bad ideas in every other fighting game are good ideas in SF6, so they love it more.

Someone who hates the neutral skips and mickeyness of SF5 will hate it even more in SF6. So if that anon hates both games, he might have the same problem with both of them. Someone who dislikes SF5 but loves SF6 has serious mental issues.

The worst part is the seasons are so shit and lacking in content I have no desire to buy any of them so I'm stuck buying individual characters. After buying just 3 I've basically paid what I did for super street fighter 4 which came with 10 new characters, a bunch of stages and an entirely overhauled combat system. I bought CotW because I like playing Garou with my friend on Fightcade and I like Jenet, and I bought it despite my disgust over the dumb Saudi shit in the game and the fact that DLC is getting infected by the same crossover shit that ruined last year's SF6 season pass.
Unfortunately Jenet is complete ass in CotW and the top 5 are so blisteringly frustrating to play against that I've lost all motivation. The good parts about sf6 are that it has good netcode, an extensive and decently fun singleplayer mode to attract casuals, and the fact that they extended limbs after they were too stubby in sfv.
Outside of that, SFV was almost objectively a better deal, content wise.

It fucking sucks that the fighting genre can't let go of previous titles. We've literally been a 'crabs in a bucket' genre for years because as everything new comes out, it's either a follow up to a previous IP, a game made by fans of some broken piece of shit that would change properties depending on the port or a niche game that dies out within a month of purchase.

SF6 should not be as popular as it is, because Capcom shat the bed hard with their last entries that people should lose faith in them, but instead they get a massive success because players can't pick up a new title and instead go back to a popular IP. We can't have newer games succeed at tournaments, or even be played because people would rather play the same classic games these companies put out 20 years ago that only 20 people played but everyone in their community hyped as the best, most deepest fighting game ever.

Content creators won't check out niche fighters without getting paid because they'd rather grind ranked in mainstay titles or they love that good nepotism that comes with the games. Max doesn't even care about Invincible but he's 'interested' because it's Iron Galaxys former team, who he worked with. Everyone was 'interested' in DNF Duel and hyping it up as 8ing kino, before it came out and died like a wet fart.

The whole genre is cursed and deserves to flounder with these autists constantly bringing stuff back. Love this genre, I fucking hate how many hours I've put into it.

I wish a fighting game would try having a single player mode styled like a beat em up. Beat em ups and fighting games are very intimately connected genres by way of their mechanics and their history. Especially with today's use of 3D to make everything, you could very easily make a mode when the camera is fixed in a certain position and you can choose a character to go through a beat em up style storymode. Depends on what you consider "good". Because imo there's enough knowledge that gets carried over to most fighting games that an experienced player could pick a new one up and learn it pretty quickly. You may not be winning tournaments in every fighting game you play unless you're some kind of savant, but doing fine isn't out of the realms of possibility.
Of course that doesn't apply to all things, jumping from Blazblue to Virtua Fighter isn't going to be a smooth transition. But in most cases I don't see how some people think it's some impossibility to play more than one fighter.

Hell, even when I go between 3rd Strike and 6, I'll try to DI in one or press forward to parry in the other. SF6 has the best marketing campaign in years, that's for sure. They keep spending money and paying off streamers and vtubers to shill it and have weekly tournaments and chipotle sponsorship trash. They invested more money into the marketing than they did the game to make it fun.
Also, SFV IS better by default simply for not having whatever the fuck the entire drive system is supposed to be.
