>Are their units I should get early?
- Get 1 female warrior, 1 female brawler, 1 male warrior, 1 male brawler, then level them up a bit. This will unlock several more classes for you, some of which have better stats than the previous classes (samurai and ninja) or have other uses (ranger and thief). You probably won't need a thief if you don't want to do post-game content but it would be a good idea to reincarnate your brawlers/warriors into ninjas/samurai once they get some levels and mana. Always reincarnate your units at "genius" level if you can.
- You could also get 1 of each starting mage/skull, and a healer or two, but it's best to use the mentor system to make all of those characters under a single magic-based character (hint hint: Flonne) and teach that unit spells.
- Generally, don't bother with creating monster units since humanoid units will outclass them because of weapon mastery. If you want to use monster units, it's best to use enemy stacking + capturing to get some high level ones.
>When's a good level to do item world stuff?
After you get through most of the campaign. The point of the item world is to collect specialists and make your items stronger and there's not really much point in doing that until you're ready for the post-game since you won't get good yields from it.
Even though this is THE grinding game, you shouldn't need to grind much in the main story. If you find yourself spending hours grinding to beat a level before the post-game, then you're probably doing something wrong and should re-assess your strategy or party.
Have fun, dood.
