D2's a bit fucky if you aren't modding it and/or aren't increasing the player count. Modding D2 to expand your inventory so you don't have to take as many trips back to town, slightly increasing drop rates, increasing the players, and then playing entirely self-found with minimal (Preferably no) additional farming and you're in for a good time

He's the worst character for solo play. In groups he's great but only for battle cries to buff party or leaping to stun enemies. His builds require grinding out good gear to output any significant damage. That's true for melee in general but it's even worse with Barb for many reasons. His skills that require the least good gear to do damage, gimp his defense, like Berserk and Frenzy. He's restricted by his stupid weapon masteries too.

If I could mod it, I'd beat it by now. It's fun as hell but very tedious, didn't make it far.

I thought kids would love the loot casino, which is significantly improved in D2R, many classes also receuved bady needed improvements.
But yeah, barb is still the hardest to play. Anyone remember the mobs in Act IV that cast Iron Maiden on themselves just as you were about to whirlwind them? So many Ironman runs were ended here by lots of players.

My fondest memory was achieving Enigma for the first time by simply taking a low rune, making a room and asking to trade up for the rune one tier higher, and repeating this several dozen times until I made it to Ohm/Lo and got a Ber. Then a Jah dropped from a random chest in Halls of Pain. Felt so great.

Rolling the loot casino can be pretty fun but I wouldn't do it again. Shame Blizzard forced the devs to stop working on it to shill that garbage fire Diablo 4 instead.

Diablo is a game about mowing down shitloads of demons and things.
Barb has 2 moves with any kind of actual AOE damage or multiple enemy damage, and both do pretty low damage with low range. He's also very gear dependent, unlike literally everyone else who can get by with crappy gear and farm easily from there.

Be real with me /v/. Should I download an older version of the game, or get Resurrected? This thread feels pretty coincidental, since the other day I thought about how I've only real sat down to try it once and that was only at a gaming cafe I went to a couple of times. Never actually finished it.

Ah, the memories. I liked bowazon, too bad this build was never as good as javazon. The shower of arrows or arrows that seeked out targets themselves were so fun. I feel as if the most fun builds were the most gimped. Even sorc ran into trouble - say you went full into ice sorc and then, in the next difficulty level tons of mobs are immune to ice. Sure, you could teleport past those, but I didn't like that. D2R at least added amulets which break the immunities allowing you to fight those mobs, reduced damage and all, but still able to kill them. Is Hammerdin still as strong as in the original?

Problem is, that bosses and some other mobs had insanely increased damage against summons. Barb is the hidden "Nightmare in Hell" mode. He's completely dependent on gear, so it's best to have stuff already farmed for him before even starting him. Gotta be constantly on lookout for physical repel spells, like Iron Maiden or certain auras (was it called Thorns?). You need to already know the game well if you want to get anywhere with this guy. I hear going into shouts works well for him (in D2R), but to be honest, he's the only character I only fucked around but never trying to seriously beat the game with.

Worst thing about Barb is being melee makes him so bad at everything that his literal fastest solo leveling build is maxxing out Shout and Leap Attack, jumping around yelling everything to death.

Best early game sorc build is charged bolt until you get closer to the skills you want like nova, lightening, fireball, blizzard, frozen orb, and so on. Some builds just wreck normal and there's little reason to not do them unless you don't want to coast.

I want a build that tells me what I need to spec into in the first 5-20 hours of the game and is only meant for the lowest difficulty while geared at a first timer
this is the main reason I didnt get into arpgs, every guide, even "newbie friendly" ones, are geared towards highest difficulty endgame, with zero care and attention given to before that

Barb is definitely dogshit but if you make runewords regularly in new bases you can get through the early game...a bit better. Steel (Tir El) is dirt cheap and isn't great but can make any base type decent. King's Grace (Amn Ral Thul) is pretty easily attainable repeatedly in NM and gives a bunch of different stats but sucks vs Animals. Malice (Ith El Eth) is another absolutely crazy good early runeword that you can repeatedly craft.

It's a bit stupid that short of getting super good luck with rares or uniques you're forced to use runewords, and if you don't know the runewords then Barb is nearly unplayable. It's a knowledge check and turned D2 into a bit of a wiki game where you just follow the guides on which runes to craft, but if you want Barb to be playable as a first char, you gotta do it.

Every time a new PoE season launches there are a plethora of builds being put up and nearly all of them have multiple builds detailing exactly how you want to progress for each level range. This applies to Last Epoch and sometimes D4 as well.

You don't even need to follow the progression suggestions. Not once have I ever looked at a build guide and gone along with the whole retarded "okay build for this up to level 30 then reset and build another way until 70 then reset again and go for the actual build." No, that's fucking retarded. I just follow the end game build from the start and use a filler skill if necessary because the game is still trivial. How are you getting hung up on this? There isn't a single ARPG that is actually difficult before the end-game. If you're struggling even with a build guide that is purely a problem with you, not the genre.

I was clearing 40x mob spawns with it and since then the normal game feels so empty with not enough mobs.

most people "play" or treat the game the wrong way. in its core its a roquelite game, they even wanted to have permadeath by default. as such the game was never designed to be played for more than just the regular playthrough. you finish all difficulties, kill the last boss and try again. dungeons/monster/loot is randomized so everytime you try its supposed to feel different. permadeaths will also force you to start again. its a simple concept that gets thrown out once you play softcore. people rush through the game in record speed cuz its softcore and end up doing perma pits/cs runs because the game was never designed around "endgame".

you can buy thawing potion from the vendor. I believe they give you 50 cold res and 10 max cold res and the potion duration stacks. fill your inventory not just your belt with hp potions. thats about it, there is no other trick especially on normal difficulty.
