Other than bringing games up and posting gameplay clips, what kind of discussion are you expecting? Shmups are a gameplay-focused(which means lore and artwork posting only goes so far), singleplayer(other than TSS, there is no competitive meta to discuss) genre where the difficulty is about execution(which means the solution to most of your issues will be to improve execution by practicing the parts that are still too hard for you).

Look at what RPG threads are like now. Look at the "character action" threads. All of these are awful. Just make threads on games you are playing and talk about what you think about them. Why is this so hard? If you don't have anything to say then go play the game until you do. Stop making threads with the intention of having others put in the effort for you.

Because he has nothing to say about it. And if he is playing it but can't articulate his thoughts on it, then he needs to slow down and stop consuming things. If he stays quiet long enough his brain will generate something to say, and if not then there was no point in having a thread in the first place. If you can't muster up a single thing to say about how the game is designed then you aren't really thinking critically about the things they play and what makes them good or bad.
