Despite all the heaps of movie-shit Tim has bloated the Unreal Engine with he never adds things for video games, like environmental destruction. Japanese devs did environmental destructive that shit in shoddy engines 20 years ago--X-Com did it in the early 1990s--but Tim the billionaire can't be bothered to add video gamey components to Unreal. Instead he adds shit that ratchets up hardware req's so he can brag about 3D PHOTOREALISTIC GRAFIXES

Honestly, after playing the beta, I agree.
The game looks good and runs at 4k60 on an RTX 3080 with very little stuttering, I'd gladly take it over UE5slop.
The game itself is nothing special, but it's at least solid on the tech side.

Not only that but UE5 just does not support basic things that everyone else already has done.
>Directstorage that supports NVME drives(No Lumen does not count)
>Real Time Lighting(it currently crashes in certain situations even in small rooms)
>Multiple types of Anti-Aliasing and not just smearing TAA
>Different types of shaders for Toon Shading and Cell Shading(Currently Anime style or Cartoon style hardly has any real support for Developers)
No joke even basic Engines try to do this and actually do a better job because they listen. With UE, it's like everyone has to complain loud everywhere on Social Media and tell these AAA companies to stop using it and promoting the race to mediocrity.

UE only has some dogshit plugin called Mayhem thats literally just a slider that lets you chose if player can destroy some small assets like random rocks lmao. If you played UE5 you probably saw how sometimes you can destroy random ass stuff while everything else is static asset. Not everyone enables that because its CPU taxing. Epic was working on something with Havok before they got bought by Microsoft but after that it got cancelled and Epic just gave up and wrapped up unfinished shit as Mayhem.

God fucking dam it, the cell shader is salt in the fucking wound. I hate unreal so much, it's literally an afternoon of coding but no, the engine has 5 slightly different subsurface shading models and 50 more. All 90% of them useless.
AA is other of my biggest complains but seeing how they just refuse to clean even the fucking base shadows or texture filtering it's here to stay. In what world it's ok to rely on TAA for texture filtering holy shit

The Final runs on heavily modifed custom fork of UE5. Enivornment destruction tech used in that game was developed by Embark from scratch. CDPR is also modyfing UE5 because it has issues with asset streaming to a point where they couldnt even prototype properly so they have to develop own asset streaming tech from scratch lmao.

Because SDK enivornment itself is still UE5 despite modifications. Average contracted codemonkey, artist or whatever or outsourced pajeet wont even know that engine is modified. They still will be able to coddled with blueprint system and UEs SDK in general. Heavy modifications under the hood is something that wont affect new employees and outsourced goblins.

Simple answer is money. We saw it with Halo Infinite about how Blam! is "too restrictive" and not the fact they hired jeets on 6 month contracts because it was cheaper than retaining the developers who know/knew how Blam! works.

Yeah, like you said, with Unreal Engine 4 they really sold it to Disney (Mandalorian) and other movie studios trying to cut costs by not using talented people and instead using a few CG interns and outsourcing to India. I think that's why Rockstar also used Pajeets for the GTA Trilogy which ran on Unreal. I think the biggest sign that Unreal is garbage is that Nintendo and it's 2nd parties used it on 3 games and none of them could hit 60fps and 1080p.

It's literally being developed as a plugin. It's not some major engine overhaul. The Fast Geometry Streaming Plugin in UE5.6 is literally what CDPR worked on for Witcher 4. I've made plugins for goal-oriented planning and lag compensation because unreal engine doesn't provide that out of the box. It's not major work compared to the rest of the shit the engine provides.

No, it was so they can get money from the tv and movie production business. TV shows and now even movies (Furiosa) had their VFX done with real time UE5 due to how cheap and easy it makes things. They had George Miller like steering the virtual camera with the analog stick while the scene plays out, and just sent the screen recording to the final edit
