406H and a hacked 2DS. Mainly been playing 3DS games recently in terms of handheld gaming though. (On PC, it's all Warframe, all the time baby. Really hoping the Android port goes well so I and other people can play on chinkhelds.)
3DS games have been going pretty well, playing _DS games on a real system is fuckloads better than faking it on something else, and it's fun to feel the real gimmick again, though I wish I had one of the New 2/3DS systems instead of this brick, for both the second ""stick"" and the higher specs.

The V2s are good and I loved using mine for the longest time, but if you play a lot of movement-heavy games (platformers, shmups), you probably won't like the d-pad. Electrical tape on the contacts helps muffle the noise but the d-pad can puncture the membrane over time and go straight to the contacts too (you can fix this but it involves making "stoppers" for the d-pad out of cardboard). Otherwise really solid.

You can get something that plays PS1 and under for $30-50. DC to PS2 is like $150. Anything higher than that is Steam Deck territory unless you want a Retroid Pocket 5 for like $250 that'll only do up to low tier Switch at best.

Not really. Homebrew/Creator-centric systems like this are always going to be incredibly niche. Few people ever get into PICO-8 or 1.8" Handhelds despite those effectively being the same territory and way way cheaper. It's hard to say without sounding fart-huffing, but the vast majority of people just aren't actually interested in games as creative projects, they just want something to play, and if it costs money, then it immediately becomes more about the question of value in a more general sense, rather than what this is providing specifically.

"Burn in" is a fucking awful and extremely misleading term. Outside of some extreme cases you won't experience it.
What you WILL experience if you've used those devices regularly is color degradation by now. It might not be immediately obvious during normal use if you don't look for it, but if you cycle through single color backgrounds like red/blue/green you will instantly spot parts of the screen where the colors aren't uniform anymore.

Vita emulation kinda sucks. Compatibility is really hit or miss and it's far more resource intensive than it should be.
If you want to play Vita games it's honestly best to just get a Vita, even if you emulate it on your beast of a PC with more power than sense there will still be small issues here and there.

Nah. I've been using my various phones over the years to emulate games since 2011 - Dreamcast emulation has been possible on Android since 2013. I use a Bluetooth controller attachment that wraps around my phone. It's honestly pretty good for playing on the go and significantly easier to just transport this little retractable controller with my phone than it is to carry around a whole additional device.

The one in OP is a portable FPGA console so it's a bit different from the others, others are either linux or android. Point of these is to play emulators, but also some pc ports (portmaster).
They do come with a sd filled with roms for most, but would recommend not using it (chances of failing are too high) and instead just get your own sd card with your curated roms; you'll likely would have wiped the og card anyway to use a custom firmware

All buttons are clicky, fastest way to check if you have 'new' buttons is by how easily you can press them from the sides. If it goes down unevenly from that side, it lacks the ring. If it goes down as a whole, you got the revision. You need to print washers for the d-pad either way.

for me it's Melon DS Android app and AzaharPlus Android app. Melon DS is still being maintained and has features that DraStic never did - like emulating the DSi menu and installing and emulating DSiware. Azahar is built off of the two main forks that were worked on after Citra development stopped when Yuzu devs shutdown everything and the github was closed down. Azahar Plus restores .3ds support, encrypted .cia support, and downloading 3DS firmware directly from the app. Even my budget phone can emulate 3DS games these days.

Wanted a horizontal but this thing too thin to be comfortable.
Also it uses a thermal pad (so no fan or exhaust holes) so the temps just accumulate on the back. It gets hot.
Went in thinking this was the best value. Despite my complaints maybe it is just because of the screen?

You now have something technically better than a standalone RP5. You can see it as a current gen 3DS (4DS?).

I dont think this is made for people who actually want to use it.
the "d-pad" is like the joycons which is awful and there is an attachment you put over the buttons that looks even worse.
might be good after a couple of revisions but this one is too experimental.

the pocket ds is likely going to be at around 500$ price range, it's more expensive that the onexsugar sure, but also a lot less retarded design-wise; meanwhile for a cheap alternative the magicx zero 40 still has a proper d-pad and works with tate arcade games

I have my phone loaded with emulators and my miyoo
if I want to play a quick race in ridge racer 4 on my phone, I have to pick up my ps4 controller, pair it, load the emulator, pick the game, then prop the phone up on something and then play, draining the battery
alternatively, with the Miyoo, I pick it up, and turn it on, and press the middle button which has all my most played games in a quick menu, save stated when you turn off the device, so I just pick ridge racer and it's already in-game and I'm racing. plus the feeling, I had a gameboy growing up, so this formfactor is also quite appealing.

These things are fucking garbage. Not because of the layout, but because of the latency issues even when they're connected. I don't know why they design them like that, but it's a far cry from the controller experience people actually want.
