I recall that MGS4 had a special edition in Japan that included a letter written in-universe by Otacon to Sunny's future husband. In that letter, Otacon mentions that Snake traveled with him and Sunny around the world after the events of MGS4 and later settled down in North America. Otacon ends the letter by saying that Snake simply died from old age on a couch with a smile on his face

Honestly I thought that the final scene with Sunny was supposed to mean that Solid died and joined other Snakes but, if you watch the documentary, Kojima changed the line from "Snake, Otacon, come quick!" to "Everyone, come quick!" in order to be vague but this means that Solid is alive at that moment
