Whoever made this ghetto Tokyo Xtreme Racer (this one is called Tokyo Racer X), well done. This is 4$ on nintendo eshop, and it's the best fucking 4 dollars I've spent in my entire life. There's literally no good realistic artstyle racing games for switch, and suddenly someone decided to drop a JDM style Wangan Midnight + Project Torque highway racing+track drifting arcade game. This is supposed to be a ripoff of an early access game on PC that costs 30$, while it itself costs 4$? Wow, this is best value in video game I've ever seen. This is how you price your video games publishers, take fucking notes!

it's crazy they managed to make the funnest and most feature-packed NASCAR game right when NASCAR was at its peak of quality. or at least, close to it.

Anonymous No.718223004
>>718222825
I haven't played that, but it's possible it has better handling. The thing going for this game is the highway racing (which I don't see in many games), and the ability to tune the performance of the cars. It's a bit of jank but it also has good selection of JDM cars

zoomers play driving games for "vibes", not because they actually like cars or racing. weird fucko physics and mumble trap soundtracks with a mandatory VHS filter are prerequisites.

So you would say games like NFS HP2, MW, Undercover and NFSU 1-2 are also zoomer garbage? :(
Anonymous No.718224006 >>718224556
>>718223481
Most Wanted Carbon and Undercover are zoomercore. Underground series is borderline. Hot Pursuit has none of what I listed. in fact, none of the above titles do, and I only humoured the 'street' titles because they were trying to cash in on the early 00s wigger elements of car culture even though they at least still pretended to give a shit about people who actually cared about the mechanical side of cars.

Looks pretty fun OP. Any car customization?
Anonymous No.718224413

You can alter the appearance of the car a little bit, but not by much. The coolest aspect is making the car go faster by upgrading the engine horsepower. Being able to create 590bhp honda civic is funny as hell

I think street racing games in general disappeared, and suddenly all of the racing games were about track racing. The street racing didn't return until Horizon and Crew series brought it back, but it's not the same as this highway racing (which seems to be its own niche). This game is cool because it does both highway racing, and there's little bit of that janky arcade drifting (and most importantly, it has the cars you wanna drift in the first place, the jdms)

Need for Speed was always there, and they were always the big dog of the genre. Midnight Club more or less got rolled into GTA, and GTA 5 lets you do more stuff with your car customisation-wise than any MC did.
stuff like Burnout and Crazy Taxi weren't for people who actually liked cars, they were for the Mario Kart demographic.
it's not just a matter of arcade physics, but the fact the physics are bad. arcade ≠ "waggle across the road like a snake, bouncing off traffic like a pinball". There's good arcade and bad arcade, and this looks a lot like some shit-ass jank bargain-bin arcade. The fact you can't tell the difference speaks volumes to your taste in games.
>using 'JDM' instead of 'tuner'
this is what marks you out as a zoomer, for the record.

JDM is it's own thing. Being able to tune audios and bimmers is cool and all, but when I say JDM that's what I mean, it has big emphasis on JDM. Sure it's missing some of more obscure models like cressidas, crowns, chasers and marks or whatever, but it has tons of more JDM than any of the westoid racing games. I'm not sure if even the modern gran turismo has good coverage of JDM anymore, since that series too seems to be about "modern cars" now. Haven't played Forza so can't comment on that

I understand the value and portability angles, but give me some other positives. Why would I play this if I could just go play one of those games, or TXR? Does it have any standout cars besides the usual Supra/Skyline/STI/RX-7/Lanevo/etc? Do you get to see the anime tiddies flop around when you hit a wall? Surely it has to have something unique to it.
Anonymous No.718225747

I don't care, a shit game is shit. Only a tendie would play a shitty game and pretend it's remarkable because he has no other choices. I can buy actual AAA videogames from the era they weren't shit and they cost 4 dollars, I can buy the new txr or emulate an older one, why would I play this?

The problem I have with grid is that it's track racing. That Club Unlimited 2 or whatever is called is closest thing to something I'd normally like to play, but that too seems to have its fair share of problems, and the roads are too wide. This janky ass game (the one in OP) is the one that reminded me that highway racers are the one I actually might prefer the most. Game with tuning, street/highway racing (not wide roads from horizon/crew), that's what we need more of (in general, but also on switch more so)

As opposed to any other racing game on the Switch? Grid also supports a Gamecube controller anyway, though I don't know why people don't consider just using the right stick for acceleration and braking, it feels pretty natural.
Anonymous No.718233665
>>718233339
nta, but I've been using right stick for acceleration ever since GT5 on PS3. Analog triggers would still be nice to have for others reasons though (at least for drifting), like analog clutch and analog handbrake (GT5 didn't let you bind clutch to any button on game controller, yet it worked completely fine if you had a steering wheel.. womp womp).
Anonymous No.718234449
It's the sound effects that does it.. I laugh every time when something funny happens because of the sound effects. Muted videos don't quite convey it the same way

Needs some kind of a visual filter for the car. As is the car level of detail is clashing with the environment creating the "Nintendo hire this man" style.

So naturally if someone got some street/highway racers for switch I'm open for suggestions. Maybe if microsoft ports forza to switch 2 that'd be something. Still the roads on forza are quite different than in "street racer" games. Hell however good it was, even TDU1 was very different from NFSU/Midnight Club tight-knit streetracing. There seems to be "street racing" games, then there's "open world" games/games set in open roads.
