It's honestly kinda sickening how much they're desperate to win the contest of constant relevancy, to the point that they'll let it get in the way of actually playing video games. They're the only ones that ever care about whether a game is "dead," whereas Gen X and Gen Z will just play these games no matter how old they are or how many players they've got. After all, you only need one lobby of 4-8 people for a lot of those games to be playable, and Gen X and Gen Z will actually find those people while Gen Y just sits and mopes.

All fps games are now storefronts and every decision made behind the development of these games is made to promote that. The Netflix UI, the sketchy ebmm, the lack of a simple server browser, and many other things. FPS games are literally a downgrade from where they were 10-15 years ago because the development mindset went from “how can we make a good game” to “how can we get them to buy skin bundles”

All good FPS are on VR. Pavlov, Contractors, Breachers, HyperDash, VAIL. The mouse/kb is boring after trying VR, 6DoF controllers raise the skill ceiling. Be wary, most players are children on standalones with lighting fast reflexes.

I really wish there was any smaller developer trying to tackle FPS in a way that isn't just a derivative of boomer shooters, or modern Doom. DEEP STATE looks cute, and Compound Fracture too I guess. But there's no AA studio (or smaller) trying to do an honest singleplayer FPS that's just a straightforward war setting, there's no equivalent to Medal of Honour the same way that Project Wingman is an equivalent to Ace Combat for example.
