The only gripe I have about BG1 and BG2 is the caster boss fights. Specifically the layered immunities and protections and protections for those protections that ALL high level casters have access to with hilarious speed. Speed that you the player are unable to duplicate even with a chain contingency or improved alacrity.
The rules for 3.5 were such that unless you had taken the time to memorize which protections Dispel Magic, Remove Magic, Ruby Ray, Breach, Pierce Magic, Spell Thrust, Warding Whip, Secret word and Spellstrike could remove AND checked the combat log to see what anti-protection removal spells they had cast... every time you fought a Caster you had to look at the combat log, see what protections theyd cast and then spend a ridiculous amount of time reading the descriptions of every spell protection removal ability you had AND THEN double check to see if they had things like Spell Shield/Spell Turning/Minor Globe up as well that would BLOCK your ability to remove their protections unless you started with one specific Spell.
Youre out of breath reading that run on sentence you fat fuck. Now imagine doing it. The Spell protections/defenses/removals/anti removals system was VERY horribly built and the only way to accurately navigate it as a new player or even just as someone unfamiliar to it was to spend several minutes reading every time you heard "HES IMMUNE MY ATTACK HAS NO EFFECT". It didnt just interrupt the flow of combat it slammed you into a brick wall.
