The official discord dying would be a net positive and there's nothing stopping the attention whores from migrating to an unofficial one. In fact, at least one of the 'clans' has one. The less influence that shitshow has on development the better.
I also doubt the new guy is going to be particularly active in there anyway. 1. He's wearing more than one dev hat. 2. He appears to be relying on MTL to handle his new responsibilities.
