There are 26 bosses in DS1, only 4 of them are duded in armor - Artorias, Iron Golem, Ornstein & Smough and arguably Gwyn. So 15%.
And there are 41 bosses in DS2 and 12 are dudes in armor - Burnt Ivory King, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight, Graverobbers, Throne Watchers, Dragonrider, Twin Dragonrider, Velstadt, Dragonslayer, Ruin Sentinel, Looking Glass Knight and Pursuer. So 29%. Triple the amount of individual bosses and twice the amount when compared to the full boss count.

If you don't count repeating bosses (so basically just Asylum Demon copies and Twin Dragon rider) and DLC bosses (the most optimal situation for DS2)
Then it's 3 out of 20 - 15% for DS1 and 7 out of 30 - 23% for DS2.
Not to mention a lot more basic enemies becoming dudes in armor in DS2 as well.
It mostly got really bad with the DLCs but overall there were still way more "dudes in armor" than DS1, no matter how you look at it.

Now compare to DS3, which was hailed as being a drastic improvement compared to DS2 in this regard

I prefer "dudes in armor" to what they do now: some spastic faggot with six limbs, who takes up most of the screen, with multiple anime combos, and hitboxes that don't make any sense unless you memorize them. Sekiro is one of their best games because aside from some bullshit, the parry is perfectly logical and the punish windows/posture system actually make sense. Whatever retard thought to put posture in Elden Ring but not have a bar for it is a mongoloid.

Nobody hailed DS3 as being a drastic improvement in regards to dudes in armor, they hailed it as being a drastic improvement in regards to level design, visuals enemy movesets (not the same thing as being humans in armor or not) and not feeling like shit to control.

9-13 out of 25 - Gundyr, Vordt, Abyss Watchers, Yhorm, Dancer, Dragonslayer, Champion Gundyr, Soul of Cinder and Gael
With Pontiff, Lothric, Nameless King and Gravetender being debatable since unlike previous games, the dual bosses aren't just both dudes in armor.
So a whooping 36%-56%.
7-10 out of 18 if you don't count DLC and repeat bosses again, so 39%-55%.

Funnily enough, despite it turning out DS3 has actually the highest count of dudes in armor, when counting only the DLC it seems to have the least:
DS1 - 1 out of 4 - 25%
DS2 - 4 out of 10 - 40%
DS3 - 1-2 out of 6 - 17%-33% (Again depending on if you count Gravetender as dude in armor)
DS2 doubled down on it in DLC while it seems DS3 course corrected.

Speaking of bosses in From games, and statistic counting autism.
Did you know that base Elden Ring has 167 bosses but only Rykard, Fire Giant, Placidusax, Radagon/Elden Beast, Maliketh, Loux and Malenia are unique bosses and every other boss fight is either a copy of another one, just regular enemy or straight up an NPC? That's 7 unique bosses that never get reused, only 4%.
Just a fun fact.

I guess making 80% the areas and levels the most stale, unnoppressive, trivially easy pieces of shit counts as "better level design" to these people
not to mention making the entire world a straight line

I bought Dark Souls 2 the day it came out on midnight release (I was last in line at the Titanfall release, I remeber it vividly, I was the only one there for Dark Souls 2, 11 March 2014).

The game just felt weird as fuck somehow compared to Dark Souls 1, I could never put my finger on it. I think it's the map, or maybe it was just the ADP stat, or the weird janky clunky way they integrated covenants into the game, or if it was just the art style or what I don't know, but it just felt so fucking damn weird and to this day I just can't figure out why.

In Dark Souls 1 there's some kind of over-arching narrative that tells you where to go that you hear from multiple NPCs (go to the clock tower, open Sen's Fortress, pass through it, etc.) but in 2 it's just that Emerald girl at Majula.
Dark Souls 2 just felt like a traipse through a weird world that made no sense and was made to be a weird world for the sake of being a weird world alone and not for any meaningful story or gameplay sense and it was just OoOoOo mysterious, here's some hints about it's the same world as Dark Souls 1 like the ruined bowl and stuff. Just odd.

It felt like Return to Oz, you ever see that movie? Good film but it just felt... weird

It's just a joke about how bad the stories have gotten, where characters will just haphazardly say nebulous nonsense. It stems from the overblown image DaS1 got when it's popularity boomed. There is no actual Zanzibart. It just sounds like a name you'd hear in one. In particular it gets associated with "epic" phase 2 transitions. For instance, Gael is a Zanzibart.
Anonymous No.718234814 >>718235415
>>718233502
To be clear, 4% just never repeat in any way, there are more bosses.
But I'm not autistic enough to go through all 167 bosses to check how many are actually unique bosses, like for example to check how many "types" of bosses there are that are then copied over and over.

>>718233690
I did for DS3 >>718232362, not doing that shit for Elden Ring because the sheer fucking bloat is ridiculous. Which I guess is a bigger problem that "dude in armor" anyway.

2 feels like a knock off of 1 by people who almost-but-not-quite got what made ds1 so good. I firmly believe if ds2 was exactly the same but without "dark souls" or "fromsoft" on the cover it'd be ignored at best and reviled at worst.

What's even more baffling to me is that Nightreign the game which clearly steam-lined a lot of ER and did some UI refinements STILL didn't add a posture bar.
Seeing modders easily add one just cements that it's either out of incompetence or lack of care.

It would still be interesting to see how little boss diversity elden ring has. Although 4% is already a very bad number.

I think if it was called β€œXander’s Journey through La La Land” it would still have its big fans but for the most part it would just be ignored as another weird low budget Fromsoft game like Eternal Ring or Forever Kingdom.

ER is so fucking big that you can either only ever fight any given boss once and have one of the most diverse experiences out there, or you can fight a bunch of them 5 times and feel like you're being jerked around. Depending on if you're doing a casual playthrough or a completionist one.

But the guy above did go a bit far. ER has a lot of bosses either be NPCs or become NPCs, like Rennala or Gideon or Ymir. You fight each only once, but they appear before or after that fight.
