yes and its super easy, just right click on your steam game preferences, compatibility, and then pick something there, usually i go for proton hotfix, if your game is pirated or just not a steam game, you can add it on steam, just click on add non steam game, find the game's .exe and then you follow the same steps like its a steam game

Did the retard that make this realize you can just download firefox off the microsoft store? It would be a more fair comparison as well since both examples would be downloading and installing from their intended software repositories.

it's the time it takes to download firefox. Left side you just type it in, right side you have to navigate edge. Not sure why it even gave that weird screen at first, honestly seemed like he intentionally mistyped it to slow it down further at first but it looks like he just hit refresh and it went to the proper site, not sure.

you just seem kind of dumb. You had to learn how to use a computer in the first place, and this isn't any harder. It's no different from learning where you need to go and what settings you need to click on, it's just faster and not organized in a familiar way. That's really and truly it. You can learn everything you need to know about linux in like, 2 hours, max. And then you can use it for the rest of your life.

Every time i have to reinstall linux (which is mostly because i got a new drive, except for that time i was fucking retarded and symlinked the arch package folder to try to free more space on my drive), i have to do the following:
>make the xfce not horrible by redoing the panel shits to be more like windows
>install all the software
>add a swapfile
>do the setxkbmap -option grab:break_actions to enable the ctrl + alt + / shortcut to allow releasing the mouse because X11 is really, really adamant at stealing the mouse cursor when you tell it to
>set UseTakeFocus to N on HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver of regedit of wine to fix a unity issue
>do the kludge to disable the password screen when mounting the drives
>eventually just add the drives to fstab
>disable PC Speaker beep when deleting an empty string
And i think that's it
I still like it more than Win10, and i dread having to use W11, but that's a me thing.
I imagine many people would like to avoid all this bullshit and just use windows, but i think you should do yourself a favor and make your windows as clean as possible.

No, I gave it a shot but some typical Linux annoyances are still there, such as the complete lack of vendor software for my audio interface or an open-source alternative that actually allows me to configure the built-in hardware mixer. The state of support for my Stream Deck was also dubious as fuck, with several projects available that all seemed to be in various states of abandonment or were incomplete. I have no expectation for shit like this to be solved any time soon, but it probably works alright if you're just a complete normalfag with no "special" hardware that needs bespoke support.

No one is arguieing that linux distros "just work". No OS "just works", not OSX and definitely not windows. The difference is that with linux you have an extreme amount of control over what you can do and thus, if you are willing to learn, it becomes easier and easier to fix things and next thing you know you understand way more and you can do things windows would NEVER let you. Windows has slowly been morphing into an os where you dont own your own data, you are fed ads on your fucking start menu, everything you do is tracked, and you are only allowed to do what they want when they want. Can you disable some of these things? Sure, and you should. But every single update will try to shove these things back in. You will be wrestling with your OS forever because the company it came from has ZERO respect for you, your privacy, your dignity, or your intelligence. They want complete control over everything you can ever do on your own machine.

normal people don't care about muh performance - they start they PC, they click cawadoody, they play and then they go to sleep
If you already have the horsepower to get the settings you want then what's the point in getting like 5% more FPS in exchange for having to deal with Linux and all of its bullshit? Nobody has time for this nerd shit.

Once i installed Firefox what then?
Its a one time only thing so who cares it takes a couple of minutes on windows.
How much time did it take to google how to install Firefox on Linux and be able to do that shit why omit that part.

Unless i can pick a random game and double click its icon and it just runs on Linux i am not interested.

My problem with Linux is when I go to /g/ and look at, for example, a desktop thread, they all have the same 5 casual contrarian nitwit games from 20 years ago installed and nothing else. Even here if I go into a steam deck thread here and start talking about gameplay they have no idea what to do and spill their spaghetti because they've only played 5 minutes of video games in their entire lives and just wanted to post about Linux.

I'm a bit reluctant, I've been trying to get back to it these days and it's really getting to me
>having to use a launch command for every game I want to use HDR on
>having to use firefox x11 on wayland so my fonts don't look like garbage for whatever reason
>having to disable suspend because otherwise I'm going to have to change sessions (ctrl+alt+F keys) to get some image back or it'll get stuck in a black screen
>haven't even used my VR headset, but already hearing that ALVR doesn't work so well there
>having to use a tool to avoid middle click paste on discord because just disabling the function on plasma settings does not work (and I'm used to autoscroll with middle click so I often accidentally do that)
I'll have to power through this shit but it's hard when I'm not seeing that many benefits other than escaping microsoft

PlayStation can't run Mario and Zelda, what the fuck is the point?
The answer is that nobody who actually wants to play those games is exclusively using that platform.
In other words, Linux gamers don't want to play Fortnite or Apex Legends. They genuinely and unironically don't care about those games. My source: The fact that they installed Linux. Now tell about sour grapes even though those people can still use Windows.

thats the command to temporarily enable root access so you can do things like install programs or modify core files. once you close that terminal window, the root access is disabled and you have to re-enable it again. standard security feature for any computer, so you're not sitting in root access all the time which is dangerous for multiple reasons. Windows does the same thing, that little window that pops up when you're installing a program that asks "are you sure you want to install this" or whatever, is windows doing the same thing, temporarily enabling root access to install something and then disabling it once complete.

In many ways the app store of Windows is better, because it's at least curated by a billion dollar company with only official sources. If I open Pacman, Flatpak or anything else, I get re-packaged binaries from xXRiGGa98Xx with custom scripts that the user isn't even forced to look at to confirm the install (ie. how Userscripts make you confirm the source code is fine). Honestly, this whole app package manager shit needs to go from linux and the in the recent year chain supply attacks have become real annoying and bad, to the point where updating might introduce more undesired baggage.

Every sane Linux distribution has GUIs for installation of, and managing updates to, official packages. Everything outside of the package manager's control boils down to manual installation, and you have file managers and archive managers for that. You don't need a terminal to manipulate files, although it is more efficient if you already know what you're doing.
You probably just think you needed to use the command line because someone handed you a command to run, because the command line is the easiest way to get something to happen without fuck-ups on a computer-illiterate person's computer.

2. that a command to paste into a terminal is the easiest way to get a computer-iliterate's computer to do something (still not the same as the words you're putting in my mouth).

I upgraded from 22 to 22.1 using the update manager. I didn't open a terminal at all. I don't even know HOW to do that upgrade with the terminal.
Upgrading from 21.3 to 22, I did a fresh install from a bootable USB drive. I don't remember opening the terminal for that either; Linux Mint has a USB image writer tool.
And if by "upgrade Linux Mint" you actually mean "install package updates on Linux Mint" then that's all done in the update manager too. I know there's some `apt` command to update packages but I've never used it. This thing tells me when updates are available and click the button to install them.

Thanks for conceding on 22 to 22.1 but I guess "upgrade Linux Mint" was just a figure of speech for "upgrade Linux Mint between these two specific versions".
Regarding 23.2 to 22, I never did it as an upgrade, so I don't know how to do it with or without the terminal, and I'm finding it really hard to care.

I generally dislike Linux because, historically, what's been more important to me is that software works. The fact that Linux is so unstable and fucked up has always been a big problem for me, because ultimately the point of having a computer is to be able to run applications without shit failing and requiring micromanagement.
However, recently Linux is finally within the realm of usability, and Windows is just too draconian with the bloat and spyware. My computer should not be a sleeper agent selling my data to the Chinese, full stop.
We've finally crossed the threshold where there's no fucking way I'm """upgrading""" to Windows 11, so my next computer is going to run Linux.
I still hate that Linux has massive problems running certain games, but there's a point where Windows is just such an immoral and disgusting corporation that I can't keep giving them my money and privacy anymore.

Such a simple point and they completely missed it. And they're gonna be the argument for linux? Retards who can't read a room?

The average person can't fucking do a google search without typing an entire goddamn sentence rather than keywords, and people here are honestly fucking AGOG that people want to use something easier than linux.
As much as you pisscunts want to pretend otherwise, the fact is that you share a world with a vast majority that does not act like you do, does not think like you do, and will overwhelm you with sheer numbers.
And that means that they, not you, shape the incoming generation who then, in much larger numbers, want the easy route.
Even the ones who would've been like you and be happy to use linux are raised in an environment of convenience, and very few people, even intelligent ones, want to sacrifice convenience.
Linux is ruined by its own apparent complexity. Keyword APPARENT. Even if something is not complex, the average person looks at it and goes "Fuck that, windows, apple, and my android phone just let me press a button and the internet happens."

Also I'm just gonna say OP's video completely lost me when it started inflating the time by having this retard type slowly and making constant errors while searching.
Cunt you were already a minute behind the Linux time, you didn't need to drag it out because by artificially inflating your time, even if by seconds when were legitimately a minute behind, you've completely destroyed your point. You've added false seconds to the time, and thus your entire fucking argument can be dismissed because you're a lying faggot.

You're just on the offensive like a rabid dog to have some fun, but let me explain this shit.
Converting code from a C-like syntax (GLSL/HLSL) to a binary the GPU understand is slow. Compiling from any C language to binary is slow.
OpenGL was shit, because it only accepted GLSL as input.
DirectX on the other hand worked with a "assembler like" language that converts to the "assembler like language" of the GPU, and it's a FUCKTON faster to convert.
This is the main reason why developers other than ID never used OpenGL.
Now with DirectX12 and vulkan, the shit inverts.
DirectX12 only works with direct HLSL, and Vulkan finally fucking use a middle asm language called LLVM.
It's like if microsoft looked at OpenGL and said "hey! i want that retarded design defect from the open source trannies in my software!".
I was informed in these boards that microsoft is bringing LLVM to it as well, but for now, enjoy stutter.
