yeah, highest grossing from merch, not from the video games, which have always been b-tier projects. DS was famous for being the dumping ground of shovelware that couldn't get big budgets and pokemon was no exception.

Lawyers and DRM is actually killing this industry and these corporations still don't want to admit that this is the problem, mainly because the MIC is now actively leveraging it for national security reasons. The see DRM and corporations being leveraged more and more into it as a tool for information control.

They used this especially to crack down on the proliferation of medical related scientific reports in recent times.
Hellish times await us as, slowly, nothing will be made because of drm gatekeeping.
Especially when AI, ironically used as an argument for drm on account of their training on copyrighted content, will soon be used to enforce DRM on non-AI content by ripping it off original content and then enforcing IP changelings.

The video game industry is just an initial sign of the problem with DRM in general.
