I have something to ask all 10 of the bitter 20+ year olds that grew up playing roblox. tell me some of your GOOD memories you had. before the metaverse shit, before the vigilantism ban, before the e-celebs. tell me about a roblox that not many people were lucky enough to experience. a smaller yet simpler time. What did (you) build?

it literally is just nostalgia bias, roblox used to be a very bare bones kids game with quirky identity but all that was dropped in favor of publicly traded company that needed to appease the investors first and foremost

I think I played it once in like 2006 and forgot it existed.

Roblox was for those weird sickly kids. True sigmas were on gmod.

Okay i'm only 19 but i fucking loved pokemon brick bronze. I was crushed when that game got deleted because it was basically all i had been playing for years at that point. It was the only game worth playing on roblox.

I was in VAK (war clan, basically space nazis) and we detained some guy in swampy moon outpost. I knew this raider was too good to get captured by normal means so I thought something was fishy.
Normally jails in other war clan bases have this abusable feature where you can clip your camera slightly into the wall and click buttons that are technically close enough to you through walls.
Our buttons operated off a physical touch basis for that reason.

I went to check his cell and low and behold he's broken loose. The only things left behind are a swordpack and 1 other hat.
The fucker perfectly spaced himself and DROPPED his hats on the button to open the cell. Guy had the whole base in full panic shortly after.

I always knew of this game ever since 2008(?) or so when I used to watch fleskhjerta's videos on the game, but never finally played it until maybe almost a year ago with a friend who's had an account for years. It's too bad at that point the magic of it was long gone for me, even if the game somehow managed to stay the same as it was all those years ago.

I first played roblox around 2008 or 2009 and even then their were already games that were halfway decent. Naturally they were pretty much just worse versions of "real" video games but it was still fun to be able to browse hundreds of games without paying for or downloading anything. I remember by the time I stopped playing that had some really impressive games that were somewhat unique, a lot of devs back then got their start on roblox and transitioned to other engines, like the guy that made unturned. Then they killed the magic by allowing per-game monetization and now it's pretty much just re-skinned mobile games.

I was a clanfag for most of my time there. I ended up becoming a scripter and made all sorts of stuff for different scenes like RCL, SF clans, military, milsim, starwars. Some of my shitty scripts still live on today in those sorts of groups

I only played it a bit over 10 years ago because a friend got into it and a server I liked was about a huge corridor with a wall at the end. If anyone got to the end, they could push a button and the wall would move forward until the start of the corridor, killing anyone it touched. There were some secrets in it I never figured out, might have been dev exits since they were behind passwords.

i remember those times when i beat godmode cheaters by either blasting them off the map with windforce or soflocking them with darkheart. i was also beating ice dagger speedhackers with the firebrand. i could fly all over the place with the illumina + ghostwalker bug and get 100+ killstreaks without dying. i was an absolute menace with the shadowsphere by jumping people before they could react

I played around 2011-15 so right before it really got huge. 2011-13 were super fun, me and my friends used to always skype each other or even hangout with laptops and play obbys, build to survive the zombies, etc. The forum was also an interesting place that I liked to frequent, and imo was an integral part in keeping the culture tight and not too commercialized.

By 2014-15 it was still alright, but you could tell that things were becoming more corporate. I think around when they brought out robloxian 3.0 is when there was a noticeable shift. I grew out of it shortly after and when I revisited it years later it was just unrecognizable. I think some update right before the scamdemic broke a lot of the old games that I used to play which just made me completely uninterested in ever playing it again.

I made an account in 2009 and played the game a lot until around 2014. I bought a lot of limiteds around this time period. I held onto them for years and since I’m jaded and old now I sold everything around 2023 or something like that, it was easy money and I made thousands of dollars. Thanks younger me!

I played a lot of tycoon and disaster survival. And then the onbies of course. There was a decent zombie game, and also a fun roleplaying adventure sort of game with a huge map.
I remember designing a tshirt for the marketplace and getting some tix out of it was pretty fun.
I tried learning lua and making my own place but I got filtered right at the start. And even though I was like, eleven, I still remember thinking "is this realyl going to help me be able to make actual video games later?" Ironically, if I had comitted to it, things rpo aboy would have worked out well. I never imagined Roblox would still be popular today.
