Because they realized there wasn't enough hype for "Sonic Kart". They really thought after Sonic 3 Movie and Shadow Gens and Frontiers that this time their Racing game would do gangbusters, but saw low pre-orders and negative feedback from the Open Network Test. Then they delayed it indefinitely and found license deals.

They're literally trying to make Sonic do "global numbers" by way of shilling other licenses for sponsorships than making Sonic better.

Game should’ve been only SEGA characters first and foremost, maybe a fun collab from another VIDEO GAME character
But Nicktoons/Viacom sh*t is disgusting, even more so because they literally have 3 nick kart racers on the same platforms
Shadow racing in bikini bottom is pc-funny-meme tier and should not be a central part of the game

It took 3 whole movies for Sonic to crack a billion. It took 1 week for Mario to do that with just 1 movie, BEFORE it got to Japan. SEGA's kidding themselves if they think Sonic's ever gonna hot it big like Mario. Most of the movies' revenue was domestic. The rest of the world just ain't into his ass.

True, and while I think the crossovers do get a little bit overbearing at times, most of them are within reason or ways to get more eyes on the game since TSR was dragged for not having crossovers with SEGA IPs and the roster being half the size of its predecessor. Plus even there, Ralph, Danica, and Yogscast were added within reason

Exactly. People keep acting like this marketing cycle is some shadow drop when they’ve been slowly but steadily pumping out trailers, character rundowns, and dev updates since the first teaser dropped. Feels like they actually learned post-TSR and are aiming this more like how Nintendo teases Smash stuff-bite-sized updates but consistent enough to keep eyes on the project. Hell, we know more about this now than we did about Transformed two weeks before release.

With how big of a failure MK World was and the world starving for another kart racer, they know that they've already won. Not only that, but they are also copying the Smash Bros formula which will bring in speculation and hype all on its own.
Sonic Crossworlds has already won so hard by default that there's absolutely no need to go hard on marketing.
