It really isn't as someone that got into it after Tekken 7 annoyed me enough to get into 2d games and the season 2 patch of Tekken 8 got me to quit Tekken entirely. 400ms is kinda the minimum, maybe 350 accounting for a few frames for an animation to become recognizable. Most games are designed around 25-30f startup moves being pretty reliably reactable if you're ready for them, and if you can't block 5D in GG or counter the meme unblockable "fuck neutral" button like drive impact or rev blow all modern games seem to love you're going to have a pretty bad time.
Luckily that's not really difficult at all, even most old people can react faster than 400ms, it just takes a bit of practice to actually learn what you're looking for and hat the response is.

basically all of them that bothered did fine, a huge amount of the current pro scene started with SF4 or earlier. The people that started with fucking SF2 were still winning tournaments until they got too old and retired.

I don't know +r venom well enough to say specific shit but getting your opponent to start committing to things to get around balls is a big point of using balls in neutral. Whiffing 2K to low profile a ball lets you whiff punish, jumping and spamming rockets costs him meter and builds heat, he can't dash attack unless he's already been running for 20 frames which balls are great at stopping him from doing in the first place.

I'm the same, although I don't see "Discord fighter" as a negative so much as a tragedy. But it's also overstated just what games constitute Discord territory. Having playercounts in the low 100s is still nowhere near "Discord" status. Hell, I just checked KoF '98UMFE out of curiosity, and there are three or four lobbies up, so that game isn't dead either; although, most people would probably say it was based on numbers.

The go-to point of discussion in response to this is usually, "Yeah, well, those people probably know the game and it's no fun getting squashed." To that I say: git gud. At the very least, learn how to block properly against someone who knows what they're doing. Its refreshing how simple it is on the surface, yet I can tell there's a lot of complexity underneath it that I've yet to learn. I think the reason I put off 3S is because I just dont like the parry system and how it turns pretty much every interaction into a potential gamble, it just doesn't seem fun especially at higher levels

narmaya is very solid, EX narmaya is... idk, she seems a bit worse but it's hard to compare considering they have almost inverted flaws and strengths.
2B was one of the worst characters in the game, but she got a slew of buffs last patch. not sure if it had a super meaningful impact, but i'd guess she's at least not among the worst anymore.

Narmaya is very solid. She can be tricky to learn because her gimmick is stance switching (which she can do on the fly) so making full use of her entire kit requires you to keep track of which stance you are using and what it can do, as well as how to link it to attacks in the other one.
That or you can just play the just released EX version which is much more simplified but still fun.
2B is obscenely good, she does not play by the same rules as the rest of the cast. She has weaknesses, but her strengths more than make up for them. People will hate you for playing her and some will outright refuse to rematch you, but honestly who gives a fuck, just play her.

They are SUPPOSED to represent win rate, or at least a rough estimate of it. Except apparently they mostly take just your last matches into account, so you could theoretically lose like 100 games in a row, but if you then win 10 in a row, your square color "improves"

The makers of the game fucked up big time because there is a Blue square, which you would think would be the best one in GranBLUE Fantasy Versus, but Blue is the lowest of the low.

Some characters having an airdash doesn't make it comparable to games where airdashing is a basic part of movement. By the same token, you wouldn't exclude GG from being considered an anime fighter or airdasher just because Potemkin doesn't have one.

In any case, 'anime fighter' is not some badge of honor a game earns for managing the feat of having a certain amount of airtime in it or whatever. It's just a descriptor and its one that doesn't describe KOF. It's not a very good descriptor in my opinion, which is why you get people saying a game like UNI is one while others argue against it, but even in its vagueness the general things people think of when they think of them like airdashes or gatlings aren't synonymous with KOF. Nobody thinks of hops when they think 'anime fighter'.

Neutral is about knowing the MU and using orb and dash superjump into barrier to get around. You can whiff cancel j.C into j.CC so a lot of jump ins are about trying to bait anti air options since she's got the worst jump in normals in the game. You're basically always playing the opponent's game so you need to know how to play it properly, otherwise you'll get rolled over. Learn the 665B routes since you need them to get anything off an air hit 214AC, people might tell you that you don't need to learn it but they're fucking wrong.

She's got a really strong overhead with 6B but doesn't have a usable low in pressure other than 2B which means the only time you can threaten a high/low is after 2A so you're relying a lot on stagger pressure to open up an opponent. 214CA and 214CB are both crutches that you might want to use at first but are easily fuzzy blocked or DP OSed by a good opponent so you shouldn't rely on those to open up an opponent. 2B is a godlike button for pressure resets so you should abuse that a lot too. You're very vulnerable to reversals in pressure so you'll need to make a lot of hard reads against certain characters if you want to win.

The best fighting game is the one that has characters you like and want to play, but DBFZ is full of degenerate, virtually unreactable shit, I really hesitate to recommend it as anyone's first fighting game.
Then again, I have no idea how populated it is today; if there are still beginners around then I doubt they would be pulling off the kind of mixups I'm talking about and you should be able to have fun with it.

Honestly, it was for me in terms of not being a facemasher and learning, so yeah.
It was still modern enough to act like stepping stone for casual mashers while still being fast if you end up liking tag and airdashers.
But really with online i dont know how it is since it's been 7 years now. If you have friends it makes things easier to learn at the same time, and i dunno if it's still fairly active like back in pre end of s4.
The alternative would be picking up any of the big/popular releases if they appeal to you.

You should pick something you're interested in, but generally speaking the easiest fighting games to pick up are just the newest ones. They are designed to be more accessible by and large which helps, but more than that, they just have more players and a wider variety of skill levels as a result. If the game being easy to get into is a priority for you then I'd say your first three considerations should be SF6, Tekken 8, Strive or choosing an upcoming fighting game that's likely to be popular like Tokon and trying to get into that when it comes out. Though if none of those look interesting to you but you still want to try something, then DBFZ is probably as good a choice as any.
