It's actually an effective strategy on bigger maps with lots of hidden treasures to just destroy all their workers and main building, kill off all their farms and such, clean up the excess units, and keep the unit production buildings alive (outside of any like Demon Portals that produce no food cost units) and then to go grab everything you need, especially if you want to mass up some scrolls of healing. Certain maps also have specific cheese strats that allow you to run your hero into the enemy base, kill their production, and effectively remove that enemy from doing anything for the rest of the map.
Honestly, RoC and TFT both have some fun cheese that does make replaying hard mode maps a lot more fun. Having trouble with the final Scourge mission in TFT? Quickly produce a base, make four shades, then put them around Illidan when he takes over one of the points, and him and his units will not do anything until he is killed, leaving you with more than enough time to destroy the other bases. Final undead mission to defend Kel'thuzad? Run and grab the goblin land mines when the mission starts, run to light blue's base on the left, plant enough to kill the enemy base with the workers, then use the rest to destroy the two workshops on the right (might need Animate Dead for it if you ran his army into the mines), he will now only send Rifleman and Gyrocopters, and not many at that.
You can get pretty creative with missions when you know how the computer works.
