Why did Spec Ops The Line filter /v/ so hard?

Why did this get delisted? I don't remember any licensed music and 2K still exists.

anon the writer literally said that was the idea.
Walker is meant to be (You).

No, he didn't. The most he ever said was that the interpretation of, "Just turn off the game," was a valid one, but not an intended one because it was actually the interviewer who came up with it.

The gameplay in this is pretty mid
>yeah, that's by design. War isn't supposed to be fun
Yeah but that doesn't change the fact that the gameplay is fucking mid.

Would have been cool if there was a secret easter egg ending where you could actually have just turned around after making contact, kinda like the Far Cry games.

It does go against Walkers hero complex, but it just being a fun easter egg ending that's available in the first ten minutes makes it a non issue imo.

I think it was mid because the developers didn't know what else to do with it. "So what are we going to make this Heart of Darkness but in the desert gameplay? Eh, just make it a third person shooter"
Anonymous No.718257891
>>718255728
How is it an arcade shooter? Have you ever been in an arcade and played the shooting games that were there? It's just a standard third-person cover shooter, one of many pumped out in that time.
Anonymous No.718257916
>>718257703
The game actually started with the premise of “gameplay focused tactical shooter set in Dubai”, and then 2K suggested that they make it a loose Heart of Darkness adaptation similar to how Bioshock drew inspiration from Atlas Shrugged.

I feel like they probably wanted to do more with the sand stuff, but the tech and budget probably limited them to some environmental hazards, explosives kicking up sand and scripted sandstorm sequences.

I get the feeling that the game would have been way more ambitious than what it turned out to be if they actually had the budget for it. It’s good what they managed to produce with what they had though.

Most /v/ermin are double digit IQ underaged mutts, situations in fiction that are meant to impose cognitive dissonance are interpreted as a personal attack
>Walker did this, but the game is messing with me
Is interpreted as an affront and the response is instant emotional kneejerk of hostility instead of of going "I know what you're doing, game".
Had most underage shitskins here played Eternal Darkness, they would have complained that the game made them think their TV's were turning defective and there'd be a slew of unending threads talking about how it's "dogshit" for doing so.

People kept playing it over and over again and that was making the devs mad over their lack of media literacy (you're supposed to not play it I guess) so they took the game down.

>surface level, the game's about a guy slowly going nuts and killing everything on his way to save/"save" the city
>medium level, the game's there to punish the player for liking violence in videogames
>the actual plot: main guy died in the first helicopter crash and the rest of the game is his purgatory (with a little aimed at you too), and this is why you're being railroaded so hard and why shit like the WP accident happens, why some background shit changes based on player input, and why Walker's eyes are literally broken
The fact the lead writer (/dev?) had to go out of his way to clarify this in an interview years later is just funny to me because I'm pretty sure literally zero people (outside of the "haha Ash is in a coma" memelords) knew Walker was dead.
Cool idea for a game, but shit execution.

Also the game's gameplay was a bit too generic, it caused a lot of people to instantly dismiss it as a generic shooter in a tidal wave of generic shooters, instead of blowing a bunch of normalfags' minds. It needed more "pop" to pull in normalfags, and "dynamic sand tech" isn't it, chief.

Licensed music. Kind of a shame considering the game probably didn't "need" licensed music (like most games don't need it outside of crime sims like GTA and music-focused games like Guitar Hero, Hi-Fi Rush, and Brutal Legend.)
