KF is still the best in terms of atmosphere, but the gameplay is beyond dated. Honestly, atmosphere is all it had going for it until Tripwire fucked it up.

KF1's gameplay is fucking perfect.
It's weighty, guns have recoil and heavy impact, and it feels like an actual co-op SURVIVAL horror game. It was all crowned by that grimy and gritty slaughterhouse atmosphere, that was paired with the extremely self-ironic Bri'ish memedry ... because ANY old game dev and modder would do that. The sequel(s) on the other hand are generic, floaty console games, with tons of neon-color bloom effects, cartoony as fuck art style and absolutely diminished the Brit-bong elements. The game got more and more bloated, with each UPDATE bringing another 20 gigabytes of shit, and hosting your own server requiring a whole nother copy of the entire game in a separated folders.
All this, because majority of the maps do NOT use any sort of object instancing, but instead have their own copies of the very same assets.

There's also a shitton of promised, promoted features TWI never implemented into the game, such as Crawlers moving on walls and ceilings.

What damage type is everyone using on the grenade launcher? As a commando it feels like a waste to have an assault rifle only on hell on eaerth. There are so many monsters in group matches that you easily run out of ammo, even with the perk to have more ammo.

I would say it's the best boss in any of the games desu because it's the only one that does something interesting and the tactics to beat it (on MP at least) are also a bit interesting. You can kite them all together as a team or 1-2 players can kite 1-2 impalers while the rest of the team ganks 1-2, which is kinda funny because it mirrors what the bosses attempt to do to the players, split them up.
I've never liked the boss round in KF, but the impalers have grown on me.

I don't think its possible with the Dragon's Breath.
I'm using the wide nozzle on the flamethrower and its still so weird, you flame the ground and a circle of fire is put there, but it feels like there's a hidden cooldown on how many fire circles you can put down because spraying all over the place doesn't make the floor lava like it did in KF2. I really, really wish this wasn't the case because skills and weapon mods to make ground fires last longer and be bigger are SO good in theory but actually applying the fire feels too inconsistent, and now that Firebug doesn't push ZEDs back for free like in KF2 you NEED that consistent ground fire to be applied as you back up from a group of ZEDs running at you, instead you just put the first circle down and the ZEDs run out of it as they chase you and you can't put another one down or make a trail of fire at all.
I will say though as less "realistic" as it is, changing the ZED panic animation to them just standing there instead of flaining around randomly is such a superb improvement for literally everybody else in the lobby that isn't playing Firebug.

KF2 peaked at 20k during EA, 7k on release, and spent most of the time in between at around 2k players. It didn't break the EA peak until it was free to play. After the free periods it had a pretty solid player count of about 4-5k. It should be added that KF1 was more or less abandoned by all players when the KF2 EA began, and the sequel ended up being far more successful than the first game.
It goes without saying that KF3 had a rough launch, but player numbers are about what you'd expect from a KF game.

Kevin's granddaughter and heir to a portion of the Horzine fortune has used her position and resources to fund a group called Nightfall and gather people from around the world as a form of resistance and off the records investigation unit to catch any would be mad scientists and end their plans, which is what these first mission stories are all about with the Chimera Project. I couldn't find anything Nightfall being or not a secret from the game's lore, so maybe that'll be expanded in the next season.
