It's really easy. And it's fun.

i considered going prebuilt for my new computer but the mark-up on a $2000 rig was like an extra $1000 bucks. Fuck that, just have a little self respect and nut up and do it yourself

the motherboard manual has pictures where you stick the cards and most cpus have arrows and "press here" stickers
also youtube guides are dime a dozen and applicable to 98% of all computer parts

the difficult part is picking the right parts, but you have to do that with a pre-built as well (most of them are put together from shit that sold under expectations), so...

What is a good keyboard and mouse you guys would recommend?
Anonymous No.718254991

Depends on what you value and what you do with the computer. I use a Mionix Avior 8200 because it's one of the few mice with side buttons in the configuration I like and works in the left hand, but my keyboard is a basic-bitch microsoft ergonomic membrane keyboard because beyond having it work and be comfortable I don't care.

>how hard is it to build a gaming PC
Overwhelming at first. You will do some small mistakes. If you are a complete retard, some of said mistakes can be actually fatal to the hardware (you can, like, short circuit your gpu with static charge from your hands if you grab it by its ports or you can fuck up the mobo in the process of installing the cooler or you can forget to install a standoff and bend the mobo). There are plenty of things that can go wrong if you're a retard.
Your first launch will be very scary. Eggspecially if it doesn't launch or POST because you forgot to plug in something.
Just have a youtube guide open on your phone at all time and strictly follow the shit they tell you. But then again if you're a total retard you won't be able to tell if the guide is good. And there are actually atrociously bad pc building guides online (some of them can fucking kill your parts even). If you're that bad, just pray that the guide is good
And don't overdo the thermal paste part. You don't need a lot of it. Just a pea sized drop in the middle. It will spread itself. Don't forget to remove the sticker from the cooler baseplate too

All in all it's not THAT hard. Later you will post on this site saying "holy shit retard, building a pc is piss easy I swear"

Very easy.
If you're unsure, try dismantling your PC and putting it back together, to see how easy it is.
There are websites out there that let you choose parts and automatically check for any incompatibility.

I fucking hate building PCs, but some people enjoy it. Maybe you're part of the latter, who knows.

I feel like one reason some people might exaggerate how easy it is because they gradually over the years upgraded different parts and accumulated knowledge about PC components from YouTube videos and whatnot etc. then when they finally built one from scratch everything felt obvious and trivial.

It's going to need some effort, research and care. But it's not rocket science and you can definitely do it.
Anonymous No.718255729
>>718252797 (OP)
so so. Not all parts match well with each other and you need to check stuff like recommended memory timings cause more hz doesn't always mean it's better. Cable management can take some practice and things like daisy chaining might not be obvious at first. There are plenty of video tutorials usually how to do so just inform yourself properly and take your time while building.

It can range from dumby fuckin easy to a real ballache. If you dont know how to diagnose computer problems it can be a pain if you receive dead parts or kill them yourself

it's the easiest it's ever been to build a pc as manufacturers keep simplifying connectors
Anonymous No.718256746
>>718252797 (OP)
Its a little more difficult than it used to be since all the parts come directly from the Chinese factory now and have no documentation or if there is a manual, it's just a few simple drawings, also a lot of the labeling doesn't match. A lot of cases now are obsessed with le cable management and have really tight fittings, and a lot of mobos have all kinds of stupid useless branding shit getting in the way. Still worth it

Yeah this is correct. My first one didn't boot. Spend like 4 hours googling what was wrong. Finally found the solution at 3am which was that I needed to manually reset the bios with a screwdriver like in the pic, as well press harder the CPU in to its socket (the CPU was the scariest part desu as you are meant to use more force than you think with something as fragile). Also make sure you have a socket screwdriver as well as normal one as many cases and motherboards require both.
>>718255686
Also correct. My first time took an entire day learning what and what not to do. Following a dozen of youtube tutorials, rereading instructions from every part I bought and so on. Its something you are meant to do on quiet weekend with nobody interrupting you as it will be time consuming.
Anonymous No.718258408
>>718252797 (OP)
Are you too retarded to find part specifications and check their compatibility when buying parts? Too retarded to read manuals and/or look up video assistance when building it? Too retarded to not break delicate electronics and follow proper building procedure?

If you answered yes to any of those three then just buy a prebuilt. You won't save that much money building your own nowadays, it's more for the experience and self-improvement.

>>718252992
If you have to ask that then you ARE too retarded. It's not "necessary" but it's recommended. Keeping it attached to your power supply while it's plugged in (and turned off) is the easiest way to make sure you're not building up static electricity.

>as it will be time consuming
True
When I built mine, I started, like, at 6PM thinking I will do it in a couple of hours
I finished around 1AM
But it booted first try

And then there's a whole world of undervolting and finetuning (ram xmp and all that), but that's for another thread
Anonymous No.718258558
Physically, it's pretty straightforward, but navigating the BIOS is a little daunting. Took me a while to figure out how to configure the memory correctly there, didn't bother messing with any CPU settings there at all.
Everything is made infinitely easier by having a computer already to download drivers and look stuff up.
Don't do what I did and dissect your old PC for parts.
You can always move drives around after you have your boot drive set up.
Anonymous No.718259063 >>718259137

It isn't but it's definitely kind of stress inducing which makes it seem harder than it really is. PC parts are far more durable than people think they are so unless you are an idiot who is winging it without looking or reading anything then you should not have any problems. You probably will still feel tons of anxiety when putting your CPU between putting it in and bringing the latch down.
There are also things that you may not even be aware of, like with certain CPUs the Initial post on a first boot may take a long time because the CPU is doing memory training or something.

I'm not sure if it was something exclusive to Ryzen 7xxx series or not, but when I built my machine the initial post took a long time because of a built in feature of those CPUs is inspect and run tests on the memory during a initial boot.
