the church criminalized same sex marriage in the 5th century and justinian the emperor of the roman empire pretty much made it outlawed, but the everyday people may or may not have followed those edicts. therefore, it would need to be explained the attitudes toward the act to begin with (i.e. homosexuality was an act of sodomy), and for henry's characterization to make sense, it would need to be explained that he understands this and is ok with committing the sin for the sake of sating his sexual lust.

I think this is a bi specific thing. You hang out with other straight guys and talk about hot women and date girls so you're heavily socialized in the straight, and probably heavily discouraged away from gay. it was ESG money. The developer when the first game was made was a devout christian and was even asked why homo isn't in the game and he explained why in detail, to backlash.
The second game, its like his opinions and perspective did a 180 and now he had hoards of the original game fans asking him "these leaks say Henry can be gay, is this true?" and instead of just saying yes, they did everything to try deflect, cover it up and say "well even if he is, its not a big deal chud".
Basically, the dev sold out his values for money. A tale as old as time.

The game gave me a dialogue choice early in KCD2 when someone asked if I have a wife, I the let Henry say something like "I'm not married but I have Theresa back home".

I thought for sure this was the developer's clever way to actually figure out if the player want to be normal or gay, but NOPE, you still get the gay options throughout the game (the devs are not clever, they are retarded).
Nonetheless if there was an option for Theresa early in the game there should have been one at the end as well. That's what I would have picked if it was there.
