Bananza worked becuase it was a pretty stark departure from what is "conventionally" Donkey Kong. The whole character was redesign, old characters are mentioned but don't really play a big role in the game, the game itself isn't really like any other DK game in the past.

I think they'd need to soft reboot the character. The connection to Dinosaur Planet is just awkward and the whole tribal aspect is just odd in what has always been a sci-fi game. Make her a test subject of Andross' to make a better pilot or something until Star Fox rescues her. Commando had a decent idea, it's execution was just awful and focused on the worse aspects of almost every single character with awful presentation.

We need a story with a focus on "The War" with the branches of that story resulting from both actions on the map and story choices.

Heavy Arwing customization would also be a good thing to add. On the fence if they should include the Tank or the Submarine again.

More and more younger Japanese devs are taking the helm at their IPs like Mario and DK, the older veteren who’ve been at the company for decades have either tragically passed away, retired or very close to retirement age, it’s gotten to the point where there their in-houses games are worked on by former SEGA, Square Enix etc devs like Kazuya Takahashi who was the lead of Bananza.

There’s been plenty of points leading to Nintendo becoming less stubborn and trying to actually open to what fans have been wanting throughout their sole Switch 1 era, not perfect but it’s been a pretty good lineup of fanservice like pic related, Nintendo will always be a greedy and anti-consumer corporation but they know when to get their heads out of their asses time to time.

1.) Sci-fi settings have had fantasy/tribal/spiritual elements since their inception. Krystal is basically Deanna Troi from Star Trek.

Returns did well but everyone agrees that the "franchise trimming" was a let down and fans were stuck waiting to see if the things they liked from the old games would come back. Tropical Freeze is fantastic but the Snowmads didn't resonate with players and the game didn't do amazing on the WiiU. It's just a hunch but based on the interview from the Bananza devs, there is a lot of new blood in Nintendo that wants to recognize and build off what came before, even if it wasn't an in house creation.

There is a distinction between tribal mysticism and science fantasy. TransDimensional Space Whales and Deana Troi are perfect examples of inexplicable phenomena being slapped on a science fiction work. These are contextualized as strange mutation and phenomenal biology creating seemingly magical results, but the context and presentation is still 100% science fiction. It's ultimately something some fictional scientist could study and eventually understand.

There is a stark difference between those things and a tribal witch doctor with an explicitly magical staff who talks to Dinosaurs who function under a Monarchal system supported by Space Gods and Magic Stones. What I'm talking about is mostly about presentation and ideas. Krystal operates almost entirely as a "Magical" character. This is somewhat addressed at the end of Adventures with Andross seemingly implied to be behind all the magical stuff on Dinosaur Planet but that's not a great compromise.

That's the only part of his army that "outsourced" and even then, two of the four original Star Wolf team members are his nephew and Pigma who worked for Andross before this to help kill James. I'm fine with doing that for Andross since Assault did this, and it was cool. As for Star Wolf, I'm not so sure. I think having them around as minor characters could work, so I don't see the need for them to sit out.

SF64 is the only game in this franchise anyone actually cares about, and it's been so long that it's hard to say people even care. The series would be totally irrelevant without it. All other entries are as culturally relevant as Kameo.

We get Rail shooters made today, and they sell pretty well. The problem is that Star Fox doesn't want to do the thing that makes Star Fox into Star Fox.

While something like Rogue Squadron (Why did they quit making these?) but Star Fox would be fucking amazing, I don't trust Nutendo to actually make it, and make it well. As seen with Zero where you would be playing what would be one of the sickest Rogue Squadron levels ever if you were in X-Wings instead of Arwings but then suddenly SURPRISE FORCED HOVERCRAFT SECTION OUT OF NO WHERE that ruins teh whole level and makes it one of the worst.

Lucasarts died, but more importantly: These games overshadowed Star Fox big time. Every Star Fox game during the Rogue Leader era was just "Let's try to make Star Fox + some command element from Rogue Leader" and it failed because these games aren't Rogue Leader and don't follow its structure

Like how Nintendo stole the 3D engine of Starfox 2: their attempts to steal Rogue Leader's gameplay came off as shallow and rudimentary, even for major defenders of it. Their big takeaway from Rogue Squadron isn't that it had a load of variety with tons of ways to complete missions but instead "Let's force players into using shitty vehicles because that's what Variety is" which is a very Japanese way to think.

Oh I know about the Aparoids and the Anglar army and admittedly they might've been in the back of my mind when throwing out quick pitches for new villains on the spot lol. Admittedly the insect idea was more so thinking of quirky pilots such as Granga, Caiman and the Train Conductor while trying to think what species aren't really used in the games. Also yeah Assault genuinely felt like a perfect finale to the franchise in terms of scope and story from how the start fakes you out with the Andrew taking over the Venom remnants as a sorta semi joke at the usual formula and then Star Wolf teaming up with you due to how dire things are. Oddly the only death that really stuck was Pigma's but he still became a weird space cube and got brought back in Zero and Starlink Battle for Atlas anyway. Command really fucked up the story badly, it's pretty much narratively the 06 of Star Fox and it's funny how much a friend of mine hates it since he's a Star Fox nut while I'm more a DK and Kirby guy.
