No one really likes mermaids to the point that they can carry a game. This is an awful idea. They are more like cool side characters in other stories.

Do the mermaids help you fish better?
Would there be a benefit to rolling for tens of them? There is in most gatchas cause you need to fill different combat rolls or you're basically locked out of content.
The mermaid theme could definitely work, but needs to have a combat mode too.
