99% of video games are games though. You complete some kind of challenge, with a risk of failure, and you get rewarded, usually with a cutscene/story progress

Getting rid of an accurate descriptive term for a generic unspecific one sounds dumb. Also, to be more in line with "novel" we would instead want to give video games its own word, such as "vidya".
