I actually really want this. I think it's going to be an impressive piece of handheld gaming hardware. I think it's reasonable to say this might be it or close to it for new Xbox hardware also so that potentially adds some novelty to owning this.

No, why would I get something with a worse OS, is thicker and heavier, has to launch you into Desktop mode just to play games from other launchers, need to download and install those launchers, will have Windows bloat alongside Copilot, base model has a slightly better version of the Steam Deck's chip but cost several times more, and no trackpads? You're better off with a Steam Deck or waiting for the next generation Steam Deck 2. Also, Z2E is a joke like Valve said.

I thought I wanted a handheld PC so I got a Steam Deck years ago. Now I realized I don't want one, whenever I play a game on the Steam Deck I find myself thinking "I'd rather play this on a proper desktop". Now it's permanently fused to its dock, gathering dust except for the scant few times I've needed to use a program that's specifically for linux only.

Anon, this isn't a new practice. Any 3rd party thing with Nintendo/Xbox/Sony branding sells. Quest 3S got an "xbox" version and those have been selling. All those retarded Nintendo branded SanDisk microSD cards or Xbox branded Seagate external hard drives that are more expensive despite not being any better than the original, sell. Brand loyalty exists. Parents/Gamers that are ignorant on the matter exist.

I think you're retarded. Why would you get something significantly worse than the Steam Deck. Any game that's not on Steam, I can get it from another PC store and put it in my Steam Library as a non-Steam game and play it in gaming mode as if it's made specifically for the Deck. This XboxOS coming, any game not from the Microsoft Store won't even launch in the Xbox app, it will shoot you to the Desktop Windows mode and open the launcher for that game, meaning you're getting maximum Windows bloat, this is from leaks, by the way. People still into Xbox have brain damage. Dead platform.

I think Xbox Ally will flop hard. On the one hand you have normies who will just buy a deck or switch and on the other hand you have power users who the majority of which will opt for the much better value of a regular ROG ally or Ally X that in the most case gets the same performance or only slightly worse for around half the price tag or better. Both groups and everyone else will be laughing at the ridiculous price tag for ~10% better at most real world performance compared to the Z1E.
