the labor itself isn't even hard it's all the fucking legal bullshit that goes into it, all the permits, all the restrictions and laws that serve only to fuck the farmers in the ass. working on a farm is unironically a very comfy job if you are an employee, you don't have to worry about doing anything other than the job at hand. managing it is a completely different beast, I would never willingly run a farm in 2025 even if I had infinite money

I own farmland right now. I'm paying property tax but not cultivating it. If i cultivated it i'd LOSE money over it. I can't compete with the international market. Generational farmers around me already gave up are planning to give up. Only the largest in the area is doing fine, not because he's better, but because he can keep going with lover margins.
