haven't played this one. what's the reason this gets so much praise above all other puzzle games (without spoiling)?

great setting and unfolding story
10/10 soundtrack
cool aesthetic
very straightforward and satisfying to chip away at (its like a big game of sudoku)

the only drawback is that the ending is just so-so but it's still an incredible game

It's unique and dripping with style, as they say. A fun and interesting mystery to solve that is challenging but not too difficult. Try it; you'll like it.

Outer Wilds is for 60-something IQs, it gives you the solution to ever puzzle before presenting you with the puzzle
and half the game is waiting around for things to line up or sand to drain or whatever

For better or worse, it's legitimately the only detective game I've ever played. I hear the only other thing that comes close to it is the Golden Idol, should probably try it at some point.

it knows its limits and does its best to do what it sets out to do very well.
Nothing janky, no over-reaching, and nothing pretentious.
Its not trying to be anything special or new; its trying to be competent and in the process feels a little new and special.
Its a nice little indie title.
