You cant fix it now, neither the devs nor audience can handle or understand the 90's era culture in which it was made nor the 2000's era where it had a personality.
If i had the chance to give it a try though, i would do 5 things
>1 - go 3d
As anons above said, the 2d market is saturated, casuals dont care much but it would allow the devs which have proven they understand how to not make a broken mess of a game can challenge themselves, it would also help with the weakest part of modern NRS fighters, op projectile spam.
>2 - girl sexier yadda yadda...
Unless the team is willing to full cheesy super-hero proportions, costumes and energy the game is bound to fail, and regarding the horrible faces, you dont need to go full animu, just honestly steal the look of 90's-2000's hot actresses i you cant think of women without making them look like monsters.
>3 - less gore
Some gore is needed to be MK, but later games past the sweet spot and became a parody gore porn of themselves. Just be more creative instead and dont be afraid of being goofy with it like frying a person into a skelly rather than a realistic charred corpse.
>4 - straight story
MK9 opened this stupid pandora box of reboots and it needs to stop, just tell a normal simple story, have a couple of deaths, bring back who you need to and DONT talk about time travel during it
>5 - A good fun starting cast
You dont need to go full MK9/Trilogy again but you cant have too many boring modern OR 3d era either, like, at least 60% of the cast should be classic and the 40% need to be the fun people, not bland people like the kombat kids.
