Yes, but mostly just during the dragon element phase. That's when you should be breaking his horns. But his weakest elemental hitzone is the front legs, so it's more effort to inflict an elemental knockdown with a dragon weapon, compared to the corresponding fire/ice weapon.

Blast is a status, not an element. It works, but you'll be eating Escaton judgement, if you bring non-ele weapons to the fight.

I played through entirety of IB with my half-assed blast ham set that I made somewhere at the beginning of MR.
I got my ass whooped mercilessly and had to spend about as much time as I spent in IB in grinding lands to augment my weapon to be able to actually fight back against fatty.
If OP doesn't want to grind, I have bad news for him.

They work, however only alatreon weapons work on himself because they have the most amount of dragon element
I used to kill him with an alatreon lance really easily because of the high dragon element his weapons have.

I broke one of his horns and probably dealt around 4k damage with velkhana greatsword but he still insta killed me

Pure raw works, you just have to be good enough to kill him before he gets of enough escaton judgements (or whatever it's called) to max out your carts.

i may be misremembering, but i think the horn break only stops him from switching element. to stop him from 1 shotting you, you have to do enough elemental damage (fire if he is in ice mode, ice if he is in fire mode) to topple him, before he switches to his dragon mode.

yes but no
it does higher damage than other elements while he's in dragon mode, but that high is still lower than the highs even thunder/water have while he's in ice/fire mode, and the lows he takes in those modes from dragon aren't even comparable. you're literally better off taking a jyuratodus weapon over stygian, because at least then if you're somehow unable to break the horns it STILL does more element damage to him in ice form.

Forcing the player to take unavoidable damage from a cinematic attack (which instakills you if you don't participate in the fight's gimmick) makes Ala the worst monster in the game by default. What a waste of an otherwise great model, animations and moveset.
