nah, it's really not. Combat is unsatisfying and repetitive. Saga's mind place was utterly pointless gameplay-wise given it was entirely railroaded and never felt like you were solving anything on the case board, it was essentially a glorified QTE. Nothing about Bright Falls or Watery made for an interesting space to play in or explore. I actually like the idea of split protagonists and Saga being a black women isn't a fatal flaw to me like it is for a lot of people on /v/, but the bulk of her section was a complete drag.
Alan's dark place was much better with more enjoyable level design but was let down a lot by a complete lack of enemy variety and not leaning into the potential weirdness enough.
Even though they missed the mark a lot in other ways, the DLCs with Estevez and Baker were far cooler because they actually explored the more unique aspects of the setting, which is where Remedy shine.
My biggest problem with Alan Wake 2 is that on paper it's cool setting but fails to capitalize on its potential and the gameplay part of the experience is a complete snooze fest, even on nightmare difficulty.
It sure is a pretty game, though, even if it's nearly entirely static and lacks the dynamic physics props and surface level destruction that made Control's combat so visceral comparatively.
